CB750 Rear Drum
« on: September 10, 2009, 11:09:34 AM »
So the linkage on my 750 snapped the other day going down the road.  I bought a used one on ebay and am trying to follow Clymer's on how to remove it.  It just says to remove the pedal, then remove the linkage.  This is near impossible as that cotter pin is lodged against some stopper and also in the most awkward possible place.  Now remember I'm just replacing the linkage, so is there a way to do this without removing the rear wheel or swingarm?  Thanks for any advice

What cotter pin, what stopper.

The cotter pin that holds the long thin linkage bar should be readily accessible.

The spring that provides tension on the spindle is a greater pain in the ... if you have to remove it.

You should be able to remove the cotter pin, take off the rear bolt for the rear brake torsion bar then remove the linkage.

If you can't get the cotter pin out, I think you're  going to have to take the wheel and swingarm off.

Free bump to the top cuz I'm sure some other's will have more input

Yah, I know what cotter pin you are talking about.  It is the one on the slim linkage arm that connects to the rear brake arm, right?  If that is what we are talking about you do not have to remove the rear wheel.  But it is a pain in the butt and takes some patience.  You have to use a small screwdriver or something to straighten that pin.  Then have fun getting it out.  Then slide the fat pin out that holds the upper arm and take off that slim brake arm.  Now the fun begins...it is easier with 2 people because once you get the fat pin back in on the top and try to put in the cotter pin...the fat pin keeps trying to slide out on you.  Have someone push in on the fat upper pin while you try to insert the cotter pin.  Again, patience is the key.  Good luck.
