The best 5 of all time. (Motorcycles, duh)
« on: September 10, 2009, 02:21:04 PM »
Alright, in the process of finding out how many motorcycles one should have at any given time, someone said we should do a poll on the best 5 motorcycles of all time. Now, I must say my own knowledge of motorcycles is somewhat limited, and couldn't nominate the best 5 based on having ridden them. So, I'll start by nominating some and you can nominate your own. Once we have a bunch of bikes compiled we'll throw together a poll and see what people think. This list is of ALL TIME, they do not need to be CBs, Hondas, or SOHC4. You do not need to nominate 5, you can nominate 1. I will start with the ones I can think of.

CB550k (I've purchased 4 and currently own 2, I do like them better than the 750s I've had experience with)
Vincent Black Shadow
60s beamer airheads

Looks like our nominations are firming up. Here's a list that is by no means official or worth any merit. It's heavy on CBs, but this IS an SOHC4 forum, so we're biased. So what. Keep nominations coming if you want to see them in the list. I'm trying to put in nominations that have been made by 2 or more people, but if you think the list needs to see more bikes or other bikes, let me know... this isn't exactly formal.

CB350
CB450
CB550
CB750 (Some say 69, some say 71, others just say cb750)
Vincent Black Shadow
Triumph Bonneville 650
Ariel Square Four
Honda 919
Norton Manx 500
BMW r90s
Ducati Desmo

(I'll probably edit in some more later)

I have not ridden on many bikes but the modern Bonneville was my favorite by far. I felt like a kid on a BMX.

Hey Dan.  With THAT being said, Ya ought to know that I'm gonna have to counter with an "Indian" 1942 model 442, being an Indian FOUR, ya know? :) ;)

Sorry, gotta put a bit of competition in there. :D Meant to include it anyway. ;)

From my feeble memory I would have to go with the following

Never owned one or even rode one but as the precurser of modern superbikes we have to have the Vincent Black Shadow.

BSA DBD34 Gold Star, great road bike, road racer, trials you name it it did it.

Triumph Bonneville (650 cc), spawned generations of cafe racers and Tritons.

BSA Rocket 3 (750cc triple), better looking and handling than the Triumph version, how could Triumph steal the name for their modern tractor (sorry cruiser) !

Honda CB750 (of course)

Cheers
