Stock airbox w/ K&N filter
« on: September 15, 2009, 05:28:43 PM »
Do I need to rejet? Never had a 750 with a stock airbox so I thought instead of fighting pods, I would drop in a K&N filter I got laying around into a stock air box. Just curious, wanted to button the big gastard up.;

I don't see a problem with that as long as the inlet is the same size which it would be with the stock box.

So its a one and one count. A little more credence given to the guy who actually installed the K&N and had to rejet. I was of the opinion that a rejet wasnt needed. Any tie breakers???

The issue is the inlet size, not so much how much air the filter media allows to flow. If he had to change minimal jets sizes, maybe a little choke would have suficed.

The inlet and exhaust combination is a factor, as well.  If changing both, the jets may need attention.  If only changing the air filter, I would not expect the jetting to require change.
The 77-78 models are more sensitive to changes and they were more finely tuned by Honda than previous models.

But then, you didn't tell us what you have.   And so, any old answer to your question has dubious value.

I did it on my 74 750K4 and didn't change the jetting, however when I put the NGK D7 plugs in place of the D8 s My bike sure starts a lot better in the colder weather. I'm running 4 into 1 exaust.
