Side Firing Plugs
« on: October 13, 2009, 03:52:30 PM »
I just checked out Cycle X website and read a tip on there about shaving 3/16" off the spark plug electrode and then regapping them and re installing making what is known as side firing spark plugs. The web site said it was a  free and easy horsepower gain. Anyone tried it?

I have some in my 750 now, they work fine and resist fouling. We ran em in my buddy's blown alcohol dragster. they worked good there too. horsepower? maybe. I just checked the spark a little while ago.  I pulled the plug away from the ground and I became the ground. Yep plenty of juice there! WoW.

I was just wondering if anyone here tried them, didn't want to burn a hole in the top of a piston.  ;DLOL

I'd say it's probably a safe bet, Ken of Cycle-X is known here as a top shelf guy on the sohc4 bikes, lots of knowlege there.
You can always call him directly to discuss it, I understand he's not much for email.

I've done it on both my bikes.  I was hoping it would help them not carbon up but it hasn't.  I've ben fighting an off idle blubbering issue for a little bit...  I think if you search on "side gapping" you may turn up some posts here where it was discussed...
