Installing Morris Mags on a 77F?
« on: December 10, 2009, 04:58:47 am »
I recently bought a set of morris mags off of 736cc on here. The hardware included was for his bike, Which was a much earlier 750 i think. The axle bolt is shorter.

What do i need to do to make these fit on my bike? It has a 530 sprocket on the wheel, my bike had a 630 chain. I would like to go to 530 if possible. How can i make sure the sprokets line up? I assume i need to machine a spacer for behind the sprocket so the wheel can be centered?

Yes. Came with a disk and hurst airheart caliper, brackets, master etc. Havent decided if i'm going to fit the hurst, or just use the stock caliper and brackets for simplicty sake.

Use the 77 rear axle, and space out the rear sprocket. 530 will work.
Front is going to be a bit tough, you may have to run 500 discs or wing discs thinned and maybe trimmed.

What is the issue on the front? The only thing i see right off the bat is the speedo drive is on the wrong side. The morris has twin disks which appear to be roughly the same size as the stock ones. They are the same diameter at least. Not sure on the spacing of them though, haven't measured it.

I have concidered going with a goldwing front end. If that would cure my wheel fitting issues, i would go ahead and bite the bullet.

I love the disks that came with the morris. Don't know what they are from, but the pattern in the center is very cool looking and they are drilled. Don't really want to start over on the disks if i don't have to.

If the GL has 6 bolt brakes, wheel will fit. Rotors probably will be too big (from 750).. you could cut OD but if it goes into the holes.. well it might actually be cool looking.!

GL discs are a bit thinner I think, but not as thin as F ones, so they may take a cut down 750 rotor..

The forks and calipers used w/ that Morris front wheel should bolt-on if your trees are same diameter and distance apart. I have them posted here. Also have the fender to throw-in if interested.

So if i get a 75-76 goldwing front end, that should all swap over and allow me to run the morris wheel? I've searched and read as many threads as i can find on the subject and realize i basically need the whole front end with brakes and such. If i go with the goldwing front, I'll be able to get one of fishheads BBK's down the road.

Any other creative solutions out there?

Mmm My Bike is a 75F 750.  The only thing i had to do major for the front Morris on my bike was to make new spacers and change out the rotors. The rotors that came with the rims where not wide enough and only had contact with about 2/3 of the front brake pad. I swapped them out with 75f rear rotor.
The rear rim was bolt on and go.
Yep, i have issues with this sort of stuff.

You have a 75, I think the 77's and 78's are oddballs, and have lots of non interchangeable parts.

Could you post some pics of your setup front and rear?

Just scored a front end, Forks, triple trees, caliper brackets, but no calipers for 81 bucks shipped. Came off a 75 wing. No axle or speedo drive, I'm hoping the one that came with my mags will work. Any input?

My grandpa owns a mold shop in ohio, Huge shop with tons of CNC mills, lathes, etc. Probably will be heading up there over christmas break to machine any parts i need to make these wheels work. If i can get a brake set-up off a newer sportbike I'll try to adapt those as well. Tonight i'll be taking measurements on my friends CBR954, seeing if those calipers have enough clearance for my morris mags.
