OK, nice job guys. You might actually be better than the judges this time! The judges missed the crash bars. Tires do not need to be stock as they are a safety item. But Mine are 25 year old Pirellis and they still rock as you can maybe see by the track day link.
The Koni shocks are indeed PERIOD correct and could be bought and installed if you had the cash and the original owner of this bike did. The Wheels were never offered as an option from Honda but again are a period correct item. I have documentation for the mags and the shocks. Combined they cost almost as much as the bike did in the day...The judges also missed the horns which look cool and are so loud they still make me laugh when used.
Honda Nut has been reading and paying attention. I used my custom tensioner set up and then I removed it and replaced the stock one! So you get 2 points for reading retention and lose one for not reading my mind when I removed it !
Retro rocket, you are also correct. I brought the documentation and they loved the history and the reason I left it on the bike but as they only judge on originality I lost the points. Though there was a National judge there and he said AMCA might start considering period modified bikes in the future.
Hey Smpls70, the 550 next to mine was Doug's his stuff is ALL that perfect he took 99.75 points on his 3000 mile bike. Super nice, he was trying to convince me to finish going stock and go for more points next year.
Zaipai, the odd bits are all after market. Honda didn't offer optional mag wheels for the SOHC series. You had to go with Shelby, EPM , Morris, Lester, Hayashi and others to get decent mag wheels. Konis and mags like this were pretty normal on euro bikes but not to common on small bikes such as the 400. People just couldn't afford them. Which is why I think they are so cool now!
Traveler got the case guards first so he gets the most points. I have to pat Hondanut on the back as he got an item pretty much no one could see but it was mounted at one time! And he must have read ALL of my posts? I usually would leave it in place but removed it this time for originality.
So how did 13 do you ask?
94.5 points out of 100. Good enough for a Jr. 1st. which is the highest award you can win in your first event/show with the AMCA. The judges loved the aftermarket bits but are required to deduct points as they are not as it left the factory. They liked the documentation and I even brought in a box of the original stuff just to show I had all the good bits to put it back to stock. But as stated before ORIGINAL is all that counts with the AMCA either original original or restored to original. Anyway, you can show a bike every year and keep improving on it until you reach the top. They suggested that the bike would be a 99.5-99.75 with all the original bits re-attached. SO I have to decide if I leave it alone and love it as is or take the time next winter to bring it to totally stock and try and go for a Sr award.
But three firsts in three shows is pretty satisfying and knowing that it can still tear up the track is just frosting on the cake.
Thanks for the favorable judging, you are all welcome in my garage anytime!
