Quick question: what size bolts for brake lines (77 550k)
« on: September 16, 2009, 10:17:20 AM »
I thought I remember reading they are 10mmx1.0 banjos and banjo bolts.  Z1 enterprises has some confusing descriptions that include 10mmx1.25 bolts so I'm not sure.  Also, rather than using a banjo bolts for the caliper end, will this thing work:

do you just need some stock bolts???  If so, which ones?? I have some in the junk box and maybe other guys do that you are welcome to.  Meanwhile I will put the thread gauge on them and see what the pitch is.

Later:  I get 10 x 1.25 on one I picked up.

Looking at it  (opinion needed..) if you had a drill press is there any reason you couldn't take a graded shoulder bolt  (10 mm), drill a hole lengthways and then one radially into it??  There is nothing else noteworthy about them that I can see.

The thing you put the link to could be used to get you into the caliper instead of the Honda "pipe" which I recall is very expensive if bought new. But the pitch is wrong I think. I took the 10x 1.25 bolt I have and it screwed into a spare 1975 750 caliper I have.   So I am guessing that with the correct pitch adapter and a hose you could hook directly to your caliper  (would your hose be long enough??)

The only thing in the way of "good practice" to observe is using fresh sealing washers at any new joint.

Thanks for the reply.  Did some more diggin and now pretty sure 1.25 pitch is the one I need.  Thanks for the offer on the bolts but I have a few myself but am replacing the 2 line setup with one line.  I am purchasing a banjo bolt with the brake switch built in.  With the adapter I linked, this banjo bolt will be the only one I need.

Thanks!  I love it!    ;D  Simpler is better.

The 10 pack of washers for $4.44 is a good deal I think...
