Tach drive Seal Removal tool..CB 750

Made one up today, worked perfect on a loose valvecover.

 Will give a better report of use on a 74 750 tommorow, looks like tank has to be moved.

 Tool consist of a drill bushing that fit in the tach drive hole , then using it as a guide you drill a 1/16 in or so hole into the seal.. at the middle point of it.
 
 Then you insert a screw, grab that with vise-grips, then tap it out.
 To re-intall seal, the  tool/bushing, is used to push it back in..

 works quite well by the look of it, will try to get pics taken, and a price for them in the next few days.

Why don't you simply use a socket do drive the seal in?

which way does the seal go in because i am about to install mine as well. there is a side with a grove in the seal and a side without a grove, does the grove point in or point out?

I know you got it figured out but the rule of thumb with seals is that the side without the groove always goes out.  If you look closely there's an inner lip with a spring in it, this side goes inwards.

 Because I have a tool made for the job.

 Because the tool probably fits tighter than a socket.

 Because the end of the tool is designed to push a seal, not beveled like a socket that will sometimes cut/deform a seal.

 The main  reason for this tool, is to get the seal out, without scarring the shaft, or the housing.

 I am still trying to find a simple handle to incorporate into the design, would make it easier to use.

 It is a bit of trouble getting the drill in place, had to remove the tach cable brace off the horn. A diegrinder style 90 deg would be perfect.

For the seal driving operation, thread the top bit of the central hole so you can screw in a handle.

Maybe you can drill a hole in the side of the top flange so the same handle can be screwed into the side of the tool for holding it during the drilling operation.
