Paint scheme for build, what do you think?
« on: September 16, 2009, 05:22:50 PM »
I was thinking of going with the Japanese Imperial Flag so the sun is centered around the gas cap. Here is a picture of the flag, use your imagination for the rest.  ;D

ps- This won't offend anyone will it?

Cool idea.  Offend anyone?  In today's world, you can find someone who will be offended by anything.  If you like it, do it, and be prepared to deal with those who put up a stink.

I wanted to paint my 1990 ZX 10 white with rising sun on both sides then painted as if an American flag was draped over it.
I sold the bike.

I was thinking drape it over the tank, and have either the rising sun or the current flag (red dot on white) for the side panels.

I'm thinking that at one point my 500 had a paint job something like that. Under the rattlecan that the PO did there are raised areas in the pattern of a Japanese sunburst

I remember a while back someone had the war flag stitched into the rear of a custom seat, looked very cool.

UKs classic Motorcycle Mechanics, built up a RD250 in 2006 with a similar paintjob. Looked good on the Yammy.

Sorry no link, but it might be worth a search.

i think the bike in the pic looks good but if u want anybody to recognize the sun burst u should put the sun on the side... other wise(i think.. my opinion) the tank will just look like a striped tank with stripes that radiate from the from  gas cap....  it might work if u make the sun large ....like the same scale as the pattern u posted.... if anyone gives u  hard time about the flag tell them it is a japanese bike... would it be wierd to have a harley in japan with the stars and bars on it?  if they still dont shut up tell em ur great grand father is japanese... then shake ur head and drive away in Japanese style

+1 It will never read as a Japanese flag unless the circle in the middle is huge...

IMHO, it would look great in Japan. Just like the General Lee looked good down south wherever they were supposed to be. A Mercedes might look good with a swastika on it over in Germany but might not go over real well anywhere else. But please, do what YOU like.

+1

a statement on how good we have it now when the biggest concern is being offended. another member (and botm winner) has the flag on his bike's bumstop seat.

do it up!

From a Bosozoku DVD. Japanese motorcycle gang. No #$%*ing idea why they do that.

Here's another one. Kslrr, check out this guys rising sun flag tank. Has he flag on both sides then a red striped down the middle. Might be another way to go.

That tank is very nice, but now I am wondering if I'll get my ass kicked by a Japanese gang member for being a poser.

It's funny this was posted.  I was going to do this until I decided to go ahead and not paint the tank at all.  Here was a really generic quick mock up I MSpainted up a couple of weeks ago.

I was going to find a stopping point between the top and sides and just paint the top white.  Side covers would be red (when I got some).

I really like the idea of the tank filler being the center point for the sun of the flag.  I say go for it.

Those bike looked pretty tame for Bosozoku.  Also, that bikes paint job was very cool.
