Egli Honda 750
« on: December 02, 2005, 12:38:04 AM »
Please...
Does anyone have any information on Egli frames?

I'm keen to get hold of one (Pre '75) for a project.
I don't want a copy  - just an original frame.

How hard would it be to find one?
How do i know it's a real one?
What years were they made for the SOHC 750?
Frame Numbers etc?

I have looked on the net for information but there's not much available.

Help!

Fritz Egli allowed several people to make his style of frame so tracing by number is next to impossible, and frames were very difficult to come by even when being built. Now you will just have to rely on the honesty of the seller and have a VERY deep pocket
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

I'm going to try to contact the website.
It's in German but we have an engineer at work who's German - so he has offered to correspond with them.

Who knows - might get lucky

I like the Egli frames too Brooksey, I actually saw an Egli CB750 in the flesh once, and an Egli Vincent at Bathurst too. Old Fritz is still doing bike mods as far as I know, last I heard he was modding "Indian Enfields" or "Royal Enfields" as they're now allowed to call themselves, but as great a magician as he is, these bikes were crap even when the Poms were still making them, ha ha!

But I digress, theres a guy here in Oz who is making "Egli Vincents"l, he actually makes the egli frames and even copies of the magnificent Aussie designed Vincent V Twin engine! He was one of Fritz Egli's engineers before moving out to Oz in the 1970's, his name is Terry Prince, and he could probably build you a very good copy of an Egli frame, but you might have problems sourcing Fritz's special braced fork arrangement, unless you're gonna go with more modern appendages? Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Samcr750...
Sorry i don't know who Axl is - no username listed (Is this a Guns-n-Roses quiz?)
maybe you can guide me in the right direction?

Terry...
I've read about the Egli Vincent project
Nice, Awesome etc.

I'm not so keen on the styling or the suspension etc. but the frame was great

BTW
The K1 is coming along.
The engine is out and it's turning into a ground-up rebuild...
Everyone told me it would heppen - but it won't heppen overnight
(kiwi accent - sorry non-aussie, you won't get it)
I picked up a NOS original K1 seat last week - there goes the budget!

Wish i had more spare time... oh well.

I may be onto a guy with some more K1 parts too ... waiting for a call back

I'll check out the website
Thanks again.

:o Seems I have been away for too long...  ;) sorry...

A few notes on Egli frames: The backbone design of Egli was copied by a number of other framemakers, but it was (almost) never licensed by Egli. There was no need to get a license from Egli - Fritz Egli had "borrowed" the principle from Vincent himself. (There was a company in either France or th U.K. who was licensed by Egli to produce genuine Eglis back in the 1970s or 1980).

Similar frames were produced by Georges Martin, Manfred Rau, Gilbert Chatelard, Luigi Segoni, just to name a few.

Genuine Egli frames have a frame number that starts with "EVH750" - Egli Vincent Honda 750.

Hope that helps to get you started - if you need more information or have more questions, just let me know.

Axl,
Thanks for the info.
Your website is very informative and has the most information i can find on CB750 specials.
I don't know how much luck i will have trying locate a frame, but strange things happen sometimes.

Like...
I decided i needed to find another K1 for parts on Sunday.
Looks like i found one already. I'm going to look at it Tomorrow.

Finding an Egli frame would be great.
Finding an Egli frame i can afford would be a dream come true.

Terry,
I will keep an eye out.
Who knows what will turn up.

I'm still fairly new to this CB750 thing, but i'm learning all the time.
Hopefully with patience i will get where i want to go

A couple of Egli frames did go to down under, there is even one of the rare EVH750 racing frames that made it to Australia - Stephen Armel's bike on my Egli page.

Chances aren't all that bad for you... I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
