Oil Pressure switch removal.
« on: December 10, 2005, 01:32:20 PM »
I need to remove the oil pressure swtich from my '70 cb750 and am not able to get a wrench or socket around it. It would be easier if I removed the cam chain tensioner. Can I just remove the 3 bolts from the tensioner to remove it, or does anyone have another solution for removing the pressure switch?

a wrench that isnt too wide will work though you can only move it a little at a time because of clearance issues.

The hardest part for me was getting the little bitty nut on top of it after it is tightened down...  cramped my fingers trying to get the nut started!

When you put the new one in don't forget the washer that goes under it.  I wouldn't have known, but was looking over the guys shoulder at the parts counter and saw it in the diagram.

I replaced mine with two diferent times with parts I found in a boneyard, and finally bought a new one from honda because they kept failing or leaking.

I used "Vise Grips" to remove/replace the one on my F2, worked fine. If you need to remove the tensioner assembly, make sure you re-tension your cam-chain afterwards. While you've got your tensioner assembly off, have a play with it and see how it works, there are so many posts here about "I adjusted my cam chain and it made no difference" etc, all because some CB750 "newbies" don't yet understand how they work. Cheers, Terry.  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Might have to resort to vise grips but don't want to goober the new one.

So pulling the cam chain tensioner off via the 3 bolts won't cause any other problems as long as I install it back and retension the chain?

I like to learn but a old enough to know not to get too over anxious with removing bolts and realizing that now I have to pull the motor apart to get things back in order...been there done that....seeking counsel can be a real goooood thing.

Good attitude mate, most times people fall to temptation and just start swinging those spanners, regardless of the final cost. It's that "measure twice and cut once" attitude that seperates the "wannabes" from the "gonnabes"! (I just made that word up, but I think you understand the subtle difference) Cheers, Terry.

Got it.

Look Ma, no more leaks!

Channel Locks to remove it and a wrench to install it. I did not remove the chain tensioner...I did end up removing the starter cover to move the wire out of the way...alowed for additional travel on the wrench.

What about Oldbiker Baker? John's about your age Sam, and he'd enjoy the company? Well surely you didn't mean you needed a woman mate, you're way too ugly for a female to bear? Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D
