Okay, now this IS sounding exciting! Just one question (for now), is there ANY thought to allowing a section for those who might have something other than a SOHC4, that they might want to post questions, info or whatever, about! I meant there are folks who are building Honda CB350s to race, also the 450s, there is SOME interest in the XS650 Yamahas, do you see what I mean? a section for the OTHER bikes, might not have to be broken down like the ones FOR the SOHC4. Or is this gonna be dedicated ONLY to the SOHC4s? Just Askin' ???

Billy, personally I would say keep it to just sohc4s, there's allways the other bikes and project threads for the twins and other makes. ;)

I feel that its enough that we got separated from the general bikes thread, much of the tuning information is shareable across the range, would want to scroll thru three different classes for interesting posts. So I would keep it as one big performance section.

another interesting question is what to do with the projects section, many of the amzing threads there belong here. the egli replica, paulage's bigbore, etc.

I'm not sure exactly what i think is the best way to go about this, but I have had a hard time finding model specific threads in the forums before. model specific sections seem somewhat desirable in the main forums, but as has been mentioned already, much of the high performance information does cross-reference. maybe there could be an engine forum, a suspension/chassis forum, etc?

What if threads could be active in more than one section? Say a topic was started in the main tech forum, but is discussing a specific cb750 hi performance mod (or whatever), and could be moved to this section, but would still be viewable in the other...  i don't know if that would take up unnecessary server space, but it could help a lot with keeping information from getting buried. if nothing else, a topic could be listed under "cb750 performance" for example, but hot linked to the original or a more specific section. the daytona 750 thread comes to mind, or yeah, the several threads about the cb550/650 engine hybrid that don't necessarily fit a specific model.

in any case, i like the new addition.  ;D

There doesn't seem to be too many forced inducted/nitrous posts in general, but this might be a displacement independent sub-forum that might be nice to have?

one great thing about this is the concentrated effort. if something say... i dunno, wild... like a billet 1000cc motor surfaced, it would be easier to get behind it and help things get produced. also, for manufacturers this could be an excellent sounding board. strength in numbers, power to the people, that sort of thing.

now, who's up for making yoshi type headers but with mv agusta type silencers, removable baffles, for all size sohc's?

I too like this deal, and three displacement options sounds right.

Maybe it's best to start with that and make changes if need be than to overcomplicate.

I'm building a middleweight, but will appreciate comment from little & big brother. I hope there is somecross checking!  ::)

OK guys, how about if we break it down as Mark says by capacity.
(350/400)
(500/550)
(650)
(750)
These 4 forums would then be sub devided into (motor including carbs/ignition/exhaust)
(chassis includes wheels/forks/frame/tanks/seats/fairing)
3 forums to cater for Road race, Drag race and land speed racing with no sub sections.
A final forum where business can show case their products.
Remember guys, we have some very clued up people/companies on this board, Mark (kos) of M3 racing, Jay (bigjay) APE and Ken (ken736) sales for Orient Express. Also the small business people and part timers like Mike Rieck (MRieck), Kevin (ttr400), Greg (ohiocafracer), Rob (Voxonda) and Simon (lordmoonpie).
This section will probably have to be agreed by Glenn as I can't remember the terms of belonging to this community in respect of advertising.

Sam. ;)

I like this idea, for while I'll openly admit I don't know too much about these machines performance wise, I'm trying to.  It'll be nice to have a specific reference point for various parts/components that you all are sourcing.  Alot of time I find myself reading articles, thenopening up a dozen other tabs/windows trying to find out about the aftermerket/HD,HP part.  I'm excited for this :)

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!!!

Original displacement sections would seem the most logical for me.

As somebody that is fairly new to the scene I think a section dedicated to interchangeable parts or hybrid suspension set ups would be very helpful.  Maybe even a junkyard section where people share parts they have striped off other bike that with or without modification.

Also, I think a section dedicated to machine shops that have performed great work would be nice.  I know how hard it is find a good shop that does work for reasonable prices.

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA

IMHO one big forum is the way to go.   Dividing it into little tiny groups is too hard to just browse and read, hard to remember what threads you posted in and hard to remember where they were. (Kinda like the old Greenspun days)

From an organizational point of view, this is a very good idea.  We've all had to search for threads, this is a logical way to minimize the searching.  I'm building (very, very slowly) a 550.  I can go right to the 550 section and begin my research.  I also have a 750, and it needs some tuning.  BAM! 750 section is right at hand.  Having the Sub-sections as mentioned earlier simplifies the process even further.  There might be some redundancy across these threads, but it would be minimal compared to the quickness of finding specific topics/threads/discussions.

I'm all for this!

Not to be a party pooper here but in what way is this different then just using the tips and tricks forum? I mean I can understand a spot for the hipo parts but we already have an faq for places to by parts, that could just have a small header added and the places that have hipo can be added there.
We also have the projects page which is meant kinda for this exact thing, what go fast mods you are doing to your bike.
I only bring this up since we have so many different sections and subsections already.

23 sections actually including this one.

Don't you think it would be easier to have Hi-po section, some days i spend hours trying to find things specific to my build, I can't keep up with the amount of posts as it is. It would be so much easier if it was all in the one place and sorted out by displacement..
You see some info turns up in the Project section but most of the stuff i'm interested in is in the SOHC/4 bikes section, so if i find something interesting in the sohc section i then spend ages searching the project section to see if anyone is using what i'm interested in, even the search function isn't much help sometimes. I'm all for this new section and having all this info in the one place. Just my opinion.... ;)
