Cool news
« on: September 22, 2009, 12:24:53 PM »
For about 8 years now, I've been writing mostly short stories and a half-finished novel for fun. I've even had a few of the stories published on the web and some poetry in an anthology. So a couple days ago, I received an email from a writing agency that read and liked one of my shorts and want to know if I have a novel in the works because they are interested in checking it out. This has taken me totally by surprised and the agency is legit and represent over 50 published authors with a few that have been on the New York Times best selling list.

Now to just hope they like my book...

Pretty awesome stuff there! I hope that pans out for you. IMO, writing books is every bit as cool as being an actor, maybe more so.

Congrats! What sort of stuff do you write? Any links you want to share of your writings online?

Thanks.

I write all sorts of genres. A lot of obscure stories which most have some sort of twist to them. Obviously some dont though. I guess, "quirky fun" could describe it all best.

Here's one of my short, short published stories:

Im just trying to not get my hopes up. Whatever happens, happens. I enjoy writing, but it would certainly be cool to expand it to a larger audience. I have an idea for another novel after I finish my first one.

A couple of my random stories. I have my better ones stored away for whenever I put together a collection of shorts.

obviously it appears you do this for the enjoyment of it but im curious how much one makes on a book deal. Is there like a default amount then more it hits some sort of best seller.. Does certain genres pay more then other?

Good luck and try to a SOHC into your book  ;D

I read the story you linked to and also "Bumps" and "Rations."

You've got talent.

There is a self-publishing thingy called Lulu.  I don't know much more about it, but I've seen a few authors start out with that before a publishing house picked them up.  I think if you started there and got good reviews on Amazon you'd stand a good chance being picked up by a publisher.  Just something to keep in mind in case your current offer falls through.

Yeah, I thought about self publishing but it just feels like cheating to me and I really dont have the time to market myself. If Im good enough to get picked up by a publisher, then that would be sweet. If not, then that's cool too.

go for it. What else are you going to do besides work on the bike during the cold winters, right?
