Wow! That is serious vandalism!! Id say its VERY intentional!!  Have you cut someone off recently? Or similar?

Regardless whoever did this should have the s%@t kicked out of them!! Bike vandalism is the lowest of the low! 

Same thing happened to me as a student. I had given my bike to a buddy to use and he had left it overnight at the University. I went to pick it up in the morning and found that someone had pushed it over and take to smashing it in with a brick. Fuel tank was bashed in and like yours had gas bleeding from it.

Can you get a motion sensor alarm for the bike? Soem don't need to be wired into the loom other than to the battery. It might not stop another attack but it might mean the perpetrator gets caught in the act?

Are you serious? This happened twice in one day, or am I reading this wrong , 1/2 asleep from a night in  LTL HELL??  I am so sorry this happened to you. Have you had a bad break up or a tweener gone wrong? This hits to the core! I dont ride my 550 to work for fear of my own co-workers! Sad Huh? I transfered from Mich to Ind. kept my seniority,pay,vac etc. to start a better life for my family and there are a ton of haters there that know how much I value the 550.

         It is unbelievable that someone could be such an A$$ to have done that!

   Is there anyway, that the bike could be parked and you (and some friends, or cops) could be close to nail them, when they showed again? It's happened twice and I'd bet that, if the bike was there again, they would be there. When I first started reading about this, I thought (like others) that it WAS an accident, then I read on through to find the disaster!

      On another note, I was gonna compliment you on the way you've done the bike up because it is was REALLY a "LOOKER"! That paint scheme was so AWESOME, it was a simple design, but SO effective!!!!!   Hope you can get things back in shape and don't have any more incidents.

Hell ya.. I agree with this completely. I would have that bike out there today for two reason. One to give them the finger that you will not be put off by their bull#$%* and two so you can set around the corner waiting.

Does your school not have camera's monitoring the parking lot or campus that might have caught this.. I would say if you though about the last month hard enough you could probably think of the person that is mad at you enough to do this.

Yeah, talk to the campus donut patrol and find out where a surveillance camera is in a parking lot and sit it in plain view right by that puppy.

Make sure it is a camera that has a good picture, that grainy #$%* helps no one.

Some people really do suck! If it were me I'd park it there again on a day when you don't have classes and wait for the SOB. At first I thought bringing a 12 gauge along would be good idea but that may get you arrested. Maybe a couple buddies could wait in the distance with you.

I had a lot of stuff happen to my bikes when I lived in San Francisco. One guy even turned around and ran over my whole bike on purpose- right in front of me!  Basically, the police really don't care, either. 

I like the camera idea.  Otherwise, I belive I'd take a bus or car-pool. 
LOVE that seat, BTW.  Is that on the stock pan?

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions.  As for not telling the whole story, as far as I know I have done nothing to provoke this.  I have never vandalized anyones property, I have not stolen anything from anyone, I haven't had even a serious argument or conflict with anyone for quite some time... we're talking months here. I was not able to drive the bike back today, as its still in my garage awaiting a more through inspection.  I know the front brakes are going to need bleeding, as there is very little function from them and I'm assuming that they got some air in them after sitting at that angle. 
I'm thinking of ways that I can maybe keep an eye on it all the time.  I won't really have time to sit somewhere and watch after it until next week.  too much homework   I suppose I could try to put together some sort of security camera system, or an alarm on the bike as someone stated.  Unfortunately the university has very few surveillance cameras.  It is Iowa after all, not really a crime hotspot. Just to clarify this is the same parking lot as before, but a different motorcycle spot.  So I don't really think someone is actively hunting my bike down, especially since this is where I usually park it.  The real kicker is that the police division is housed in the building that I park outside of 
I dont know if I mentioned this before, but a friend's car was also run through last night. Nothing stolen, just stuff moved around.  This was in the same parking lot, maybe 500 feet away from my bike?

Ernie, thanks for the compliment on the seat.  It is not the stock pan, just a piece of sheet metal I had bent.  The edges of the bottom are bent down for rigidity and to help it match up to the bike a little better, then the back was simply bent up to follow the curve of the tail piece.  I then put down a double thick layer of exercise mat, pretty comfy stuff btw, and covered it all up with some marine vinyl.  I'm really happy with how the seat turned out and have some photos of the process if you'd like to see any I can get them to you.

I am enraged for you   There is a special place in hell for those kind of bastards. There was a similar instance like that at a parking lot of a movie theater a friend of mine worked at. Vandals would wait till people went inside to watch the movie (class in your case) and they knew they had plenty of time to break in to peoples cars and steal things. Other times it was broken windows, or slashed tires. One night my friend was off his shift and found a guy with a video camera filming his friend slashing up his interior with a razor. He chased them but they got away. The next week his car was stolen.

Its not super loud, I mean its certainly not quiet, but there are MUCH louder bikes around campus.  I guess I'm kind of a biased judge on the handsomeness but I suppose that fact that I don't have a girl could be more accurate of a judgement... haha no burnouts, no wheelies. I just have never understood this concept of vandalism? What is the point? Its just stupid. Really stupid.

If I may add a revenge suggestion, however illegal... If you find out who it is (hidden camera/ hiding in a bush) and don't like the 12 gauge or bat idea follow them home and do the same to their vehicle or home. Wait, I am sure anyone who would do this would not have half of the pride you have in your bike so it wouldn't be as good. Well Spikey has some M-80s that could he handy, haha. I guess my day is not as bad as I thought. Let us know what happens.
