Rack for 350/4
« on: September 18, 2009, 03:35:52 AM »
Here are pictures of a rack made by "johnakay".

He can be found at:

or

The only issue I had was the indicator tabs.  The slot is not quite big enough (he said his punch is too small) & the bottom of the tab needed a bit cut off.  All pretty easy to do with a Dremel.  It is not "show" chrome, to keep the cost down.  Cost was £65 (£70 if purchased via eBay).  He wouldn't give me a discount even though I offered to display his product here!  Also, he has a "if you don't like it, f*ck off" attitude, but his product is undeniably good.  I think he will also alter little bits here and there (e.g. his usual racks kick up a little at the back, I wanted mine straight.  His usual racks are a little longer, I wanted mine shorter).

Looks good.  Nice a clean.

But what do you plan on hauling?  A half gallon of milk?

That's a nice size.  Big enough to strap a 12 pack, extra helmet, or small duffel to, but not so big it sticks out way beyond the end of the bike.

I'm 44 years old with 3 kids.  If I need to haul stuff I take the family sedan, or the 7 seater van, or I hook up the trailer.  My days of needing to haul a weeks load of groceries on the bike are long gone!

I'll admit that it's mainly a cosmetic update.  But it is higher at the back, so a pillion actually has something to hold onto.  And it will fit a rolled up pair of wet weather pants (or a 12 pack!  ;)).
