Probs w/Google Member Map: Post Here
« on: August 24, 2008, 09:28:41 AM »
I knew this would happen. Lots of folks, myself included, are having problems with the SOHC4 Member Map on Google Maps.

Please post here any problems, bugs, difficulties you are having with our SOHC4 Member map. I will work to resolve what I can. A bit of a description, plus your city, state (if applicable) and country will help as well.

Do not, I repeat, do not feel that it is your fault if you have trouble with the SOHC4 Member Map. See rant in this thread about Google practices

Tell me more about the problems you and others are having.  I saw your 'rant' about Google.  I don't disagree or agree entirely since I'm mostly content with Gmail even if it isn't really doing much to advance the email art and their other products are competent, but not revolutionary.  Anyway, is there another way we can put together a decent membership map?

I'm going to see what can be done. I've just seen a few posts where members say that they were unable to add their placemark. I was wondering if there might be consistent probs. I'll look at alternatives, but I think Google Maps is the way to go.

As for my rant, Google Mail is absolutely a very good email system. My issue is that having taken that space, Google is not likely to add improvements, even if needed, unless competition appears. I feel the same is true of Google Maps, which are wonderfully interactive, but which are poorly designed from a user perspective.

Well, I was able to add my placemark and it was there for a week or so.  Gone now.
Also, I'm only able to see the placemarks when I'm not logged in.

Burma, the only problems I've run into are people putting their info in the map description box instead of on the placemark.  Is there anything I need to do, since I created the map?  I think part of the problem is that anyone can edit anything, right?  So anyone can go in and mess with your placemark since it is an open collaboration map.  Let me know if you need anything from me...

My placemarker moved from utah to colorado....
Haven't figured out how to get it back where it needs to be yet.

Can you drag it to the right spot? Mebbe you could delete it and make a new one.

Hope, there is 4-5 pages of members and I believe each map view represents which page you are on. For instance, I only see my marker when I go to page 4 (the page I'm on) of the list of members in the left hand column. Try that and see if that works....
