She's got this Yamaha Upright made from Cherrywood and it's a 1969 model, She got it for a Graduation present from her parents! I've used pledge on it, but it feels like it needs to be cleaned up and THEN use the Pledge (or something similar) on it. I also need to clean the keys as well.

Think about something for a minute, Brenda Graduated in        "1969"
The Piano was made in the year                                             "1969"
Her road runner was a                                                           "1969"
My road runner was a                                                            "1969'

Any idea what MY member number here is? Did anyone guess,   "1969"

Now, just how coincidental is that? ;)

That's why I'm asking about it Sam. :)  Smart Aleck kids, oops, you're OLDER than I AM! :D  Besides, she always kept after it, you know? It has gone for a couple of months or so and suddenly, I realized that I hadn't been keeping it taken care of. :-\  Karla and That piano are the main things I have left, that connects me to Brenda and I've got to take care of Both to the best of my ability. ;) (thing is though, Karla's been keeping pretty good tabs on ME)

Me too Sam! ???  But, it seems like it has some kind of buildup on it though. Might need something to clean it with AND THEN do the Pledge thing, not sure. ???

is it a high gloss Bill? sounds like a paste wax buildup. is it possible that theres a wax remover safe for wood finishes?

It was actually kinda dull looking til I used the Pledge on it. I have NEVER seen her use ANY kinda paste on it either. I've thought about doing like I did on a table once. I used a cloth very slightly dampened with hot water and rubbed down the piece. Quickly going over it with a dry soft cloth and then using something like Pledge on it. It turned out quite well By The Way! But that table wasn't Cherry Wood and the Piano IS. I didn't know if there was any particular Care I should take because of the kind of wood or not. This Piano was her pride and joy. Guess, if I don't come up with anything else, I'll give MY method a try.

You can use regular furniture polish, just try to get it all off as well as possible.
We also use a micro fiber towel to do all of the work with, it works very well.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

You know, I've heard of that stuff, but we don't have any on hand. I'm going to check into the things that have been suggested and see just what does the trick. All input here, has been helpful ad I'll let you all know just what works the best and I'll try to get some pictures, when I'm done. ;)

i use it on paneling and i used to use it on all 3 saddles i had, the manufacturers actually recomended it.

Probably depends on what the original finish was...

My grandfather did tuning and restoration for years.  He usually refinished with a oil finish (tung oil I think).  Always recommended lemon oil to clean and brighten the surface.  Always left the surface glowing and I still like the smell.
If it was tung oil, linseed (why?), or shellac, you'd probably be in the same ball park.

If it was lacquer, varnish, or polyurethane, you might want to investigate more but I would expect that a "standard polish" like pledge would be fine since you're mostly getting rid of the dust.

Either way, I'd make sure to test anything in a inconspicuous place.
