FOUND ON CRAIGSLIST

1980 CB 650

After looking at it I decided to take it home.

the story is, That it was sitting in a wharehouse for the last 15 years.

so now comes the questions...

I know Im going to have to flush out the old engine oil.

but I guess my brothers I'm asking for all that great advice that you all are reliable for.

so now without any further delay...

this bike diddnt come with a key

so im having a bit of a time finding out if it will turn over.

is it possible for a locksmith to make a key for it if i brought him the ignition switch?

Maybe, but it would be almost as fast to study the wiring diagram to figure out which wires to jump so a key isn't needed.
Some will be on, some won't, and one or two will need a doorbell button to be the starter button. This method won't solve the seat lock problem to get to the battery. Is there a lock on the seat?

Are there numbers stamped on the lock cylinders? If so, a key can be made.

the seat dosent lock in place. so thats not a prob. but the tank i cant open untill a key is made.

as far as the cylinder goes thats going to be on monday.

I don't think the tanks were ever keyed. Can someone confirm this? You should be able to open it with something like a screwdriver.

All mine are keyed and if you try to use a screwdriver on any of them you be walking funny for a few days

You should be able to have a key made off of the ignition cylinder.I bought a Kawi 1000 in the early 80's and the guy I bought it from had misplaced the pink slip and the key.I worked with the guy and he had just had the bike trucked from Boston to SF bay area.I took the ignition cylinder to a locksmith and he made me 2 keys for it.The keys started the bike and when I used them to open the seat.........I found another extra key + the pink slip!!! I was relieved because it usually involves a bunch of BS to register without the pink.

after work today I will commence on pulling out the cylinder and visit the locksmith.

and that sounds like a cool place to keep your pink slip. NOT! lol

The helmet lock is easier to pull.

I had it apart anyway so what the heck

well $5.00 and presto the local honda shop made me a key!

now I can open the tank and start all the mess with that.

so far so good...

i did my best at rebuilding the carbs.

I did a fair job i think.
