carb question - Stuck slide

I have just disassembled a set of Keihins off my '75 cb750f and cleaned them. when i took them apart one of the slides had to be forced out because it  had been gummed up with varnish. So I thought.
After a very thorough cleaning the slide still wont go back in. I could force it but it would be useless and stuck again. Can slides get out of round? It is not the carb body because all the other slides move freely in that carb. Is there anything that can be done without getting new slides?

Its possoble I guess.  I read one post where someone used a pry bar wedged between the carbs to get them on/off.  They dented the carb body and the slide wouldnt move.

Be sure you have the tab in the right place. If those are clean I can not undertand why it would not seat.

Johnie, are you refering to the actual carb slides, because I think 547 is.  ???

Yes, my carb slides have a slot for the tab which is on the inside of the carb throat. The carbs on my KO - K4 all have this tab/slot to ensure the slides only go in one way.

By what method did you force the slide out?
If you used a screwdriver in the carb mouth, then plan on getting a new slide.

Can you temporarily swap a slide from the adjacent carb to determine if it is a slide problem or a slide bore problem?

Next time you remove a stuck slide, use a heat gun.

I used an allen wrench pushing on the under side of the slide not touching anything but the underside of the slide.
It is definitely the slide and not the tab inside the carb body.
One thing that I did not mention was that if I turn the slide 1/4 turn to the left or the right then it will drop right
down to that tab then of course it wont go past the tab cause no groove.
I still have no idea.
The slide appears to be in perfect condition. No worn areas. No gouges and no foreign matter.

Did you try it without the needle installed ? Any possibility of a needle/ main jet problem causing the slide not to seat ?

I haven't tried that but I am sure that is not the problem. The needle doesn't even come close to reaching the bottom.
Don't think I considered that though or wished it was something that simple I should say.
It's not just a problem with it seating right, it binds up a quarter of the way down the chamber.

I can not see any reason why this is happening.
