100% DONE CB750 K2.......Dyna is finished!!
« on: September 19, 2009, 06:25:46 PM »
Finally put on the tires and new mirrors and Viola', my 1972 CB750 project is complete! Bought her on eBay from a preacher's wife in Indiana, shipped her to West Palm Beach Fl and had some work done (paint electric etc) and then put her in a container and shipped her down to Roatan Honduras. Great bike and been getting lots of attention parked in front of my bar (www.sundownersroatan.com).

The final touches were added and a friend of mine came by and helped me unclog two of the jets and sync the carbs. While he was working on, it managed to quip (in his best Irish accent), "It's been years since I've worked on a dinosaur like this..." (It was quickly followed by "HEY HEY HEY...!!") but the name Dyna stuck.... been riding her around the island of Roatan for a few days now, and she purrs like a spoiled fat cat......lots of fun....anyway enjoy the pics...it's the best $2000 (add another $800 or so for shipping) I've spent in a long time and it was all done via eBay, so anyone can do it.

ps..thanks again to Ted from Classic Cycle City for such a great seat. It makes the bike!

She looks great, Bro! Congratulations on an excellent build!   ;D  RR

I was put on Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!

if you take out the $800 or so I paid for shipping, the cost of this bike would be around $2000......very affordable and as my Irish mechanic friend pointed out: It's a Classic! It won't depreciate. If (big if) I choose to sell her, I know I'll get around $3K for her.

I was going to ask about SOHC drink discounts, but just heard a Canadian was killed there yesterday with 3 gunshots over his wifes purse :P

What's the local scoop on the story?

It's true..I have dual citizenship (Honduran and Canadian) and my dad is the Canadian Warden for the island ( Embassy Rep to help out), but he's in Florida, so I had to go to the scene....

Dark deserted road, 8:30 at night. The couple (who have been living here for a year) drove down it and parked while on their way home after dinner. The wife told me they were looking at a nearby house that they wanted to buy. Two Honduran Spanish guys (the islanders are of Caribbean descent), attacked them and the husband fought back trying to protect his wife. A fight broke out, and the young man (31) was shot.

The whole situation stinks.....He was a well like person. Taught at a local expat school.......there is nothing I can say to sugar coat the situation...just an act of pure random violence.

With the political issues the country is having at the moment, tourism is down. People are struggling to pay bills. My bar is one of the most successful on the island and my daily take is down 70%. The rest of the world has condemned the legal progression of power outlined in the Honduran Constitution that impeached a corrupt president that had dreams of becoming the next Hugo Chavez. It has been called a "Military Coup d' etat" by outside countries looking in. Embassies have closed, travel advisories issued, foreign aide stopped. I'm not condoning anything, but there is a sense of desperation in the air. We're hoping after the November elections normal life will resume.

Where did you hear about it?

Thanks, I couldn't have asked for a better report.

I heard they had packed up their entire life here to go there to work with children born with Aids. In fact they were just about to adopt one of the kids themselves.

A very sad tale indeed :'(

How is it you ended up there?

My Dad is from Toronto and came down in the 70s. My mom is an Islander. Born in Mississauga, but moved here when I was 6 weeks old. Lived off and on for 24 years.....

The guy taught math and computers at the expat school. The reports about him are pretty accurate. Because they were just working on the adoption.

There are a few puzzling parts of the story....1. the nearby house they were "looking at buying" is not for sale. 2. The time: 8:30. Early dinner?  3. The wife had $1000 in her purse.

There is no history of drug use, but I hope they were there to meet someone and try to expedite any sort of adoption process. Gringos have "adopted" kids here for as little as $200.

Again, can't sugar coat.....Honduras is the seconds poorest country in this hemisphere.

EDIT: the adoption had already gone through

Thanks again for keeping me updated.
Yeah, based on the radio story ...."just about to adopt"  ......hard to know why they were there.

We should talk about a Waterfront Island house switch sometime you want to come to the West Coast ;)

Love the bike by the way ;)

....... sorry for stealing your thread with my questions :P
