I was going to ask about SOHC drink discounts, but just heard a Canadian was killed there yesterday with 3 gunshots over his wifes purse
What's the local scoop on the story?
It's true..I have dual citizenship (Honduran and Canadian) and my dad is the Canadian Warden for the island ( Embassy Rep to help out), but he's in Florida, so I had to go to the scene....
Dark deserted road, 8:30 at night. The couple (who have been living here for a year) drove down it and parked while on their way home after dinner. The wife told me they were looking at a nearby house that they wanted to buy. Two Honduran Spanish guys (the islanders are of Caribbean descent), attacked them and the husband fought back trying to protect his wife. A fight broke out, and the young man (31) was shot.
The whole situation stinks.....He was a well like person. Taught at a local expat school.......there is nothing I can say to sugar coat the situation...just an act of pure random violence.
With the political issues the country is having at the moment, tourism is down. People are struggling to pay bills. My bar is one of the most successful on the island and my daily take is down 70%. The rest of the world has condemned the legal progression of power outlined in the Honduran Constitution that impeached a corrupt president that had dreams of becoming the next Hugo Chavez. It has been called a "Military Coup d' etat" by outside countries looking in. Embassies have closed, travel advisories issued, foreign aide stopped. I'm not condoning anything, but there is a sense of desperation in the air. We're hoping after the November elections normal life will resume.
Where did you hear about it?
