Sea,

I understood you folks have a relatively mild maritime climate, but never realized it would support palm trees.  :o
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Thanks. I suppose I could have used a bigger pump, but it seems fine the way it is ;)

Nice work Derek. Being near the sea, do you have any trouble with birds eating your fish?

i love that back yard Sam!  looks VERY zen eh??  no 90 degree angles, to hell with traditional architecture!!!

Thanks Gee, It took about 4 years to get it like that and £2,250 :( :(

Derek, did you notice the red frame work round the pond, had to net it to keep out the herons, cats and grizzlys ;D

Yours is looking real good now 8) 8) 8) a bit noisey though :D

It's -7c here and has been for a few days. The pond is frozen over and I tried to get a photo of the ice on the falls ::)  I will figure out this new camera soon.
Should have turned off the flash?

I know, old thread, I was bored ;D

Ha!!!!! See!!!!!!
Someone responded to my outcry for ? ;)

The feeders from last fall all had babies and then doubled in numbers.
There are 26 fish now under the frozen tundra. They will just go into hibernation till Spring.

The fountain in the middle will have to be unplugged soon, but is still keeping a hole in the middle working.
The waterfall/filter should work until it gets cold enough to freeze a garbage can with flowing water ???

Looks very cool with the lights under the ice ;D

5ft deep. No more than 6" will ever freeze.
The feeders all survided last years freeze.
I have had 3 ponds before this over many years that froze over and all was well in the Spring ;)
They nibble on crap at the bottom and don't move much.

Mine is only a foot deep and had 3" of ice and a foot of snow on it for months earlier this year, never bothered the fish. I stopped feeding them a few weeks ago and won't even think about them intill the end of March.

i have the same situation in my pond.  Freezes over and in the spring, the fishes are back. the pond froze over about three weeks ago but the ice was clear so i was able to see my fishes in the bottom.  looks to me that they just stay sort of suspended above the bottom and virtually no movement.
Started with 6 fish and must have 30 now.  The snakes get a few in the summer.
I don't want it to go like a motorcycle, I want it to go like a rocket!
