1970 836 racing clutch issue
« on: September 21, 2009, 06:15:43 AM »
Hey all,  a while back I put a  new well it was new in package but been on the shelf for many many years. anyway it was from circycle   It came with extra plates than the stock number and heavy springs I had never heard of them but that dont matter. here is my trouble. I have adjusted by the book and it still won't release fully. I then went in and turned the adjuster screw a bit more still no full release. Now rolling down the road if I just start to pull lever in it WILL slip, but always is solid when going through the gears. I don't speed shift into 5th but I bet it would'nt slip even then. And when I am sitting ready to take off I have to be carefull it don't like just easing into to engagment kind wants to jump. Is this just the charactoristics of a race clutch or am I missing something. In the past  30 pluss years I had a few barrnetts but stock springs and they gave me no trouble but I did get a hell of a deal on this circycle one so am I paying for it now. Dont get me wrong it dose not stop me from riding just in town it can be a pain in the backside any thoughts   apreciated  Craig in Maine

The clutch pack is to thick. That is very common on extra plate kits. I highly recommend the OEM steel and fiber plates with Barnett springs

Circyle has been out of business for 30 years.  We have made an extra plate kit since about 1975, that has been sucessful. The plates are thinner that oem, so all of the plates and extra steels have the same pack thickness. This clutch will take 10 second HP without slipping.
