  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
Well I was innocently driving to work this morning when my mobile (cell) phone rang, and bugger me if it wasn't ol' satan himself, in the guise of my little mate Leo, the local bike wrecker. Now Satan, for all his faults, doesn't try to tempt me with poxy heaps of #$%*e like Kawasaki GPZ305's, or even closer to home, Honda VF750's, you see, the great dark one has a bit of pride, and he knows that I'll only weaken for CB750's. (and big Suzy's, but thats's another story)

So ol' beelzebub, in his best impersonation of Leo's voice says, "hey mate" (did I mention that the Prince of Darkness is an Aussie, or maybe a Kiwi?) "I just got in an old CB750, it's got the original pipes, but the forks arent too good, and the seat's a bit rusty, do ya want it?" Well of course, I was all over the deal like a fly on #$%*, and next thing I knew I'd handed over 500 Aussie bucks (about 400 US) for this thing, and as I was driving away in the company van, with this "bargain" strapped in the back, "the penny dropped" and I realised that I'd been hosed over by Lucifer himself, with that fiendish laughter following me up the road, a bit like Brooeeeewhahaha-hardy-har-har, cough cough, hack!

Anyway, still under his spell no doubt, I waited around the corner until I was sure the coast was clear, and sneaked it into my back yard while the wife was out Christmas shopping, and had a close look at this 'orrible thing. It's a 1972 K2 according to the numbers, and has been severely neglected, it kinda gives "rat Bikes" a bad name! I asked my son Tim to pose for some pics, but he only lasted for a couple before he had to run away, violently ill when I told him how much I paid for it? Hmmmnnnn, what do you guys reckon? Cheers, Terry.

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Looks like enough work out there in your garage to keep you busy, out of trouble and off the streets for a while.  ;D I take it your wife never goes out there to do a periodic head count, eh?
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

good on ya Terry
pipes looking good, not so easy to find these days
passed on a '75 here once someone else offered $US400
it was no where near as nice and seller was holding out for more.
For a bike which hinted at holed piston, had no seat, and more rust than yours? no thanks.
Had it been as nice as your find, I would have snagged it..

Terry   ,   why does the dog keep shaking his head?

If the motor`s not locked up , I would have bought it too. Wish I could find a 500 - 550 for that price with original pipes.

Looks like the bike had a little incontinence problem in pic 5...

Either that or the dog had already displayed his opinion of the new purchase.  Those forks/bars are pretty bad... gotta have at least 6" more rise to it!

I have a friend (???) like that. He quit leaving messages on the machine of what he found, just to call him. Saves a lot of @x++# when I get home!

Well I was busy putting another complete oil cooler kit together last night, (these things are selling like hot cakes, isn't it winter in the US?) so I didn't get any time to play after I took the pics, but I did put a battery in it, and got it to run on a couple of cylinders, but I'd say that the valves need adjusting and there's a couple of blocked jets. Plenty of spark and compression though, so tonight I'll get it "tuned", I've got a new oil filter and oil for it, and surprisingly, the plugs I pulled out to check the spark are very new-ish too.

I'm not sure what to do with it though, there's 5 750's in my garage now and I really should be getting rid of 3 of them, so I might put some stock forks, bars, speedo and tach, rear wheel etc back on it, and flog it on Ebay as a resto project, once I know the engine is ok. With luck I'll make enough to finish off my racer project this Christmas.  I'll be keeping that beautiful finned points cover though, I've been chasing one of these since I started collecting bits for my racer 3 or 4 years ago! Cheers, Terry.  ;D

Terry, did your dog actually drop a load on your brickwork path seconds after your taking picture New Black K2 5.jpg?

If the pipes are good they may be worth the 400 alone. You can always keep the rest or sell it as spares. I believe you will get more parting it out than selling it together.

Ha ha, no Harry, the bike came out of a barn (well farm shed here in Oz) and "Sally the Wonder-Dog" was having a ball sniffing every inch of it. Any liquids on the brick work were slowly seeping from a leaking sump plug and oil tank plug, hence the cloths under it in the garage pic. Dan was gonna get me some new soft alloy washers to solve these problems, if he hasn't forgotten? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well I'm thinking about putting those forks on my K1 "Kruiser", I'll need to get the stanchions re-hard chromed, there's a fair bit of rust on these, but no major pitting that'll cause any oil leaks. I'm not sure about the "Z" Bars though, I might just hang them up for a bit of "Garage Art", ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry,
Seems like a reasonable buy to me. It would cost 2 times what you paid if you bought it in the UK!
Btw, have you got a left side exit exhaust on the bike in pic 6? The one with the pretty blue tank!  ::)
Jim.

Hey Jimmy, my K1 "Kruiser" (it started out as my K1 Rat Bike, but the black K2 put's all other Rat Bikes to shame!) is fitted with 1970's vintage "Drag Pipes", they're a "four into two" system that only extend as far as the footpegs, a bit like the new Buell's. I'm not sure what the advantage is, from memory they helped increase the torque, as opposed to the "top end". If you think that blue tank is pretty, you should see the "Funky tank" that Chris Boomhower sent me, it's "Far Out, Man!" I might fit it shortly, it's a real 1970's work of art! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Don't forget to add the sissy bar to your restoration (see ebay post).

I've actually got a NOS sissy bar and pad hanging in my garage mate, i could never decide what I'd put it on, and when my new seat cover arrived for my K1 I realised that it was the exact same pattern, so that's where it's going, all I need now is a "Tombstone tail light" like I had on my other K1 25 years ago! Cheers, Terry. ;D
