fender rotation
« on: May 15, 2011, 08:43:04 AM »
First post of my project.. I pretty much have a question..

So my 550K3 is coming a long and while I await a new oil pan gasket I decided that I didn't like the look of that front fender.

Yuck.

So I pulled it.

Then I was missing it.

So I put it back.

And hated it.

Anyways, I started toying around with the idea of keeping the fork brace on the bike but couldn't find any fenders on the net that I liked, so I just reused the stock one but pulled the brace off of it and installed it 7.5 inches to the front of the original location.

The question is, do you think this will lead to rubbing problems.  There's clearance in the rear as far as I can see, but I figure there's a lot more folks with experience on this board than me, maybe someone has a great "no-no" to share about doing that.

... I was under the bike trying to find a source for this oil leak that is collecting at the bottom of the sump and noticed this...

Does that look WELDED on to you? I was afraid to try and knock it loose, but it was on their TIGHT!

That does not look like a weld, more like contact with something that broke the fin and ground down the area around the bolt...Larry

thanks for the input larry.  I'll get the breaker bar to it then and stop being a wuss.

You're welcome, and I forgot to say welcome to the site.  Use a six point socket it you have one, and try tapping the bolt with a hammer(preferably brass) before using the breaker bar.

It is possible but not likely that the reversed fender may hit the frame when bottomed out...Larry

Thanks a bunch!  I'll take a further look at that fender.  I still have some carb issues to work out before the bike sees the street, but I'll continue to keep an eye out for rubbing issues.
