Mismatched Carbs
« on: September 22, 2009, 07:02:41 AM »
I just recently purchased a 750k5 and have begun to clean the carbs and once they were off the bike and stripped down the #4 carb was set up differently than the other three.  The #4 came with a brass float and also the washer set up on the choke linkage was a little different.  Other than that everything else looked essentially the same.  My question is does anyone think that due to the difference in carbs ( I assume from reading other posts that the #4 is a 69 or 70 carb) will they sync up properly.  Would you think that changing to a plastic float would make a difference?  Thanks for the responses in advance and love the forum.  Im a long time lurker first time poster.

Can we get some pictures? Generally speaking, having the same carbs for all four cylinders would be... a lot better than not.
No.

I've 3 brass floats and one plastic float, the Doc. said I'd be O.K....( actually 750K1 ! ).
Should not make any diff. once the float heights are the same, didn't on mine....

Sounds like more is different than just floats though, or maybe I read it wrong?
No.

The casting number is on the top of the carb throat right where it meets the mounting plate.  Compare those.

The brass floats were used for the K0 and for most of the K1 carbs.
They are interchangeable with the later black plastic molded floats and I prefer to use the later ones as I have had two brass floats develop leaks.
Provided the needle and jets are the same, then should be no problem.
There is some difference in main jets between the early and late carbs (120-110-105)
The only visual difference is the idle air adjustment screw which extends a bit higher in the later carbs (K6/F1) to take a plastic indicator and there should be an arrow on the casting to help identify the position of the adjustment screw.

Thanks for the responses.  I checked the casting numbers and they are the same so I guess the PO just scavenged some parts from another carb he had.  Is the carb float height for the brass floats the same as for the plastic?  26 mm
