The Island
« on: September 14, 2009, 11:54:12 PM »
Just rented/watched this one. Aside from some nit picks about product placement (it was shameless) and one or two effect that pushed the envelope of believability, I thought it a well done film doing what every good sci-fi flick does: explores difficult moral issues.

Not a bad movie if you're into sci-fi and Michael Bay. He filmed a small part of it at the old train station here in Detroit. Bay used the same place again in the first Transformers flick too.

thanks for that. i actually wondered about that old structure as i watched the film. is it a wreck as it appears? it looks like beautiful architecture.

Yeah, the building is in pretty bad condition. The Detroit city council recently voted to demolish the building at the expense of the owner (same guy that owns the Ambassador Bridge to Canada). But I don't know where that stands. It is a nice building though; too bad it is such a wreck.

that is nice. they don't make buildings like that anymore and it's too bad it has to be razed. well, who knows what can happen. from the movie the interior looked very cool too.

thanks for the picture.

I remember watching this and thinking it was alright.  It's has a slight twist to what I would consider the "original" version... Logan's Run.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074812/
