CB450 PISTON SEARCH

My 1974 CB450 needed new rings, I got the motor in a box, rings were missing. Well as it turns out, the bore is badly rusted. It was finished honed then left untreated to rust in a shed. So now it needs to be bored. Pistons are either expensive or big. I found a set of pistons 3.0mm over on evilbay but they have weird pin locks. So my question is has anyone used larger bore pistons with plastic pin locks? And can a 450 be bored 3.0mm and use a stock head gasket?

Bore it out and get some pistons from Mark at M3 - lovely wisecos and don't need anything other than a rebore...

Going to 3mm over will require a special head gasket, usually copper ($$).
It will also eliminate any future possibility of boring, as the cylinder walls will be too thin after that point.

So think about it, you may be painting yourself into a corner, so to speak........

The plastic/nylon (whatever they are) wrist pin "clips" are a non-issue, widely used these days.
If you don't feel good about them, then the wire clips are still available from Honda for cheap.

January's Classic Bike has an article where a man sez he is having pistons made
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
