D8EA thread PITCH

I want to run a tap through the spark plug holes in a 78 CB750K head I am rebuilding to clean them out. I have two 12 mm taps, but both are too coarse. One is a 12x1.75mm and the other is a 12x1.5. Can anyone tell me the correct size? Would it be 12x1.25?

I don't know what the threading is, but I think the thread size is part of the code on the spark plug. I would search via 'the googles' and see if you can get the specifics on what the pieces of that code mean.

I thought so, but I checked with my thread gauge. It is 12 x 1.25. My Craftsman tap and Die kit doesn't have it either. Just the 1.75 and 1.50. Must have to buy it special. Shouldn't be too hard though as it is a common spark plug size.

You're going to have a hell of a time finding one at your lcoal parts stores.. I tried.  Online looks to be the best shot.  Look up timeserts, etc...

I had to get one from the snap-on guy that comes to the shop everyweek, but I don't remember what I paid, probably a small fourtune because I was to lazy to look around and find a cheaper one..

My local ACE hardware has them for $7.50, and a quick look on Amazon.com tools has them also for $7.90.

I just searched Canadian Tire's site but all I could find was this Back Tap Spark Plug Thread Tool for Motorcycles at $79.99 and it doesn't specify thread or thread pitch.
