Which POR15 Kit?
« on: March 10, 2011, 11:14:27 AM »
This one:
http://www.por15.com/CYCLE-TANK-REPAIR-KIT/productinfo/CTRK/

or this one:

I initially purchased a kit from Eastwood to do a test and report back to you guys, but I read bad reviews right on their own website...so I ditched it.

I've used POR15 products before and very happy with it, just not sure which kit you guys use.
Thanks.

What are you looking to do?  If you're just looking to coat a tank with some rust inside but that is structurally sound, buy the small tank sealer on it's own.  You can use other products (search this site to get an exhaustive list) to remove the rust, then just use the sealer.  If you've got some holes I'd still go with the approach above but use some jb weld or other similar repair (again, search this site for other options) then seal and paint.

The POR-15 sealer is excellent stuff.  You won't go wrong if you want to order their entire kit just for peace of mind.

Good luck.

The first link. Follow the directions to the "T" or you will just have a mess.

The second kit just has an extra quart of marine clean and some fuel stabilizer. Do you think you need the extra cleaner? Probably not! Fuel stabilizer can be found anywhere.
I'm about to order one of these kits myself.

There are no holes and structurally nice. Initially the tank had a lot of rust inside. I removed a medium size coffee cup full of rust powder after tumbling it with some material inside and vacuuming it. However, the inside has spotty rust (peels of varnish or scale) that needs to be removed. I think, I'll be ordering the first link.

Got it. Thanks.
