So i snapped the top yoke(dumd ass here thought the washers were a po's mistake), and then spoke to a guy at a bike shop about a new yoke and he offered me a whole font end for $60. Cool, as i felt the re-welding would be dodgy.
So went through to one of his lock up garages, and picked up the whole front end(no rust, brake ,only missing front mudguard)
.
Now my bike (K4 750) has some mags on(heavy as 'ell), but the new front end had a spoked wheel. He threw in a back spoked
rim for $10
Then he offhandedly offered me two bikes, which were hiding in the back under a carpet.. A '72 and a '73.The one is nearly perfect(original paint etc), just smashed clocks and light. the other is a bit more ratty(Parts), but he had done the redone the motor for a customer who then couldn't pay so the bike was offered in lieu of payment.
I told him times were tough and i would only be able to pay him over 3 months....
We finally agreed on $500 for both.
(I dont get to take em home until payed off)
Some questions.
I had a 550 years ago, but was a bit more reckless then, and never checked the spokes. i have searched the threads, and i think i'm gonna re-lace em with stainless....
Is this a proffesional job?
The wheels as they are now , anything specially to look out for(loose spokes I've read about, the tone test?)
Just leave em?(As for the two bikes, pics in three months
).
I think i need to stop now, 4 is about the limit of my betters tolerance
“What moves those of genius, what inspires their work is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is still not enough.”
(BTW, he's apparently got a whole lotta 4 into 4's (i bought a really good set from him), you want i should take pics? Dunno bout shipping etc, but someone here should know?
