cb350...do any other fork caps fit?
« on: September 26, 2009, 05:38:47 AM »
the search function hasn't turned anything up...and i haven't seen much on ebay.

besides the expensive preload billet fork caps i've seen on one website,

are there any other bikes that interchange?

Do you have any motorcycle salvage yards near you?  I wouldn't be suprised if the forks on CB350/360 twins and any of the other smaller CB's.

That list looks good for the part number you listed.
You never said what K-model you had, so I was looking at an earlier number.......

If it's any help, I found that CX500 caps (before air forks) fit my CB400T forks perfectly, and are still available for about $6 each..........

Not saying they'll work for you, but it's worth a try.
I still have the rusty old CB400T caps - I could send you one to try, if you want.........

thanks for all the info!

my bike is a '72 cb350k4.

here's a link to the billet preload types:
http://www.400fourstore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=4&Product_Code=1957&Category_Code=C
of course, these are for the 400f, but i've seen these used on stock 350 forks.

tbpmusic: if you wanted to send a cap, that'd be great!  i can pm you my info, and of course i'll cover shipping.

John -

Let me rummage in the shop - I rarely throw anything away, so it's probably in there somewhere.
Just a matter of what box it's in - I'll get back to you, ok?????
At $6 each (the early CX500 caps), it was a great discovery for me......

Well John, it looks like I did throw the fork caps away, because I sure can't find them anywhere.
Sorry.

But at $6 each, it's not a budget buster to order the CX500 caps and try them.
Remember, pre-air forks CX500...........

i'll definitely look into those caps...i'm going through and slowly replacing all the worn parts and various hardware on my bike; by spring it should be almost completely refurbed.

Your forks have damper cartridges in them, and the top of the damper rod screws into the bottom of the fork cap. I posted above all the models that have compatible caps. No other caps will work. I had a spare pair here that were a bit rusty on the chrome, and I unfortunately tossed them out. I can get you a pair from my local yard if you can't find anything. But they won't be pretty.

thanks for posting...the ones i have are functional, but rusty.  i've seen a few sets of NOS ones go on ebay for big bucks.  i was hoping there might be a part still available that will work.

Does anyone know the ratchet size for this bolt? I gotta change my fork oil and I don't want to use a vice grip to remove them.
When you put the oil in you just pour it straight in right? no specific way?

Looks like it's 22mm.  I don't have a 22mm, but the 23mm was a little loose.
