shipping a bike (or most of one, anyway) - costs questions
« on: December 08, 2005, 12:12:22 PM »
I have an opportunity to obtain about 75% of a '78 750f (no frame, gauges, couple other small items) for a decent price.

only problem is that it'd have to be shipped halfway across the country.  has anyone done this sort of shipping before? it'd be heavy and large and i'm having a bit of trouble evaluating if it's worth the cost/trouble or not.

considering how much effort it was to get my current '78 750f engine back into form - i'd love to have a spare on the shelf, nevermind the rest of the spares that'd come along with it (some immediately required, some not).

help from any veterans of this kind of thing would be great - thanks.

Because you are talking about 75% of the bike UPS is out unless you want to pay the guy to break it down. So there are other methods for transport. Normally I make the trip and just go get it with the trailer.

However,

http://www.uship.com/motorcycles/?r=2304  Good choice as they offer rates just for bikes
http://motorcycle-delivery-service.com/

These all have decent rates, some of them offer the rates of multiple shippers.
