Clutch plates don't fit the clutch center!
« on: September 25, 2009, 07:21:37 PM »
Assembled my 550's clutch with new friction disks. They came as 6 friction disks in a package, and one slightly thicker friction disk in a separate bag. I re-used the clutch plates. Problem is, the first clutch disk in (the one closest to the basket) doesn't fit over the clutch center hub! I'll attach a photo....

As you can see, the last disk on the left doesn't touch the bottom of the center hub. It won't fit over the raised boss of the center hub, as the disk's inside diameter is just a hair too small. This can't be right! The last disk on the right, on the other hand, has a slightly larger inside diameter, and will fit just fine over the clutch center hub. But since the tabs on that last disk on the right are wider, it obviously won't slide into the basket. Besides, the manuals are pretty explicit about that thicker disk.

Did I get sent the wrong disks? Am I assembling it incorrectly?

You still have the old thicker disk, right?  Take some measurements and tell us if its the same size part or you got a wrong one. ;D

The reason I'm asking is because no, I'm a toolbox, and I chucked the old disks weeks ago.
