Dual disc 550 - now how to mount the fender???
« on: September 28, 2009, 08:57:58 AM »
I've spent hours trolling as many pics and posts as I could find without much luck.  The subjecgt is a '74 550K.  I've finally amassed all the parts to install dual discs on my 550K.  However, I'm rather stumped as to how to mount a front fender.  With the single disc I was using the stock brace with an old Yammie enduro fender pop riveted to it, but it doesn't fit very well with the second brake arm added to the mix.  A stock style fender won't work 'cause of the pipes I'm running.  I ride in enough rain and the occasional dirt road, so I'd really like a fender on there.

Anyone out there have some pics or advice they'd like to offer?

Thanx!

The DOHC CB750F series  (79-83)  had a plastic front fender and a 19" wheel like yours.  You might get one for cheap on Ebay, remove it from the brace and bolt it to yours.  You could paint it a color
to match. 6 mm Allen bolts give it a respectable appearance.

You should still be able to fit the original fender with the dual disc set up.

My bike's at the other end of the country atm but from what i remember, the mounting brackets from the fender are different either side, one has a kinda bump in it that goes around the outside of the calliper mounting arm hinge point, while the other is just flat. The mounting bosses on your forks should be slightly different either side so that to fit the second calliper you mount it with the flat bracket of the fender between the fork and the calliper mounting arm.

Mine seems to work fine with this arrangment, sorry if the description is a bit iffy.
