NEW YORK - The New York Daily News is reporting that Red Sox Hall of Famer Ted Williams’ severed head was mistreated at an Arizona cryonics facility, according to details from a new book.

In “Frozen,” Larry Johnson, a former executive at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Scottsdale, Ariz., writes that Williams’ head, which had been severed and frozen for storage, was abused at the facility. Johnson claims a technician took baseball-like swings at Williams’ frozen head with a monkey wrench.

Williams, the last player to hit over .400 in a season, died in 2002 at age 83 and had his remains sent to Alcor for cryogenic storage in the hope that future generations would develop the technology to revive him.

I saw a little article about this and I think it points out one problem with our news media.  They seem to report any allegations whether there is proof or not.  The guy is trying to sell a book.  He did not even work at the facility when the alleged event happened but is relying on second hand information. The company denies it happened.  The report I read said that he alleges the company was using empty cat food cans as pedestals to rest the head on and one was frozen to the head and they were trying to knock it loose.  It all sounds a little weird.  I remember when he died there was a big custody battle over the body with one side wanting a proper burial and the other going for this weird cryogenic thing.

i guess everyone has to believe in something and i try not to belittle folks for their beliefs and i usually do a good job of being understanding but..............freezing your head in the hopes it can be re-animated some day? that reminds me of an episode of the Golden Girls (yeah i watch it with the wife from time to time)
