Seeley tank on a CB750
« on: September 28, 2009, 06:51:10 PM »
I just got a Aluminium Seeley tank in the mail and of course I should have checked first but...it looks like it dosent fit the stock frame  :-[. Can someone with a Seeley tank confirm this? The petcock sits at the rear of the tank and sits in the battery tray when placed on the bike....help! Can I use this on a stock frame or do I need a Seeley frame (kind of impossible really).

thanks
Andy

You sure it's a Seeley CB750 tank mate? The Seeley tanks that I've seen all had petcocks on the appropriate side, as per the particular model. My aluminium 32 litre endurance racer tank has a petcock hole on either side. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yes please Steve. The cusps dont actually come anywhere near the stock tank rubbers -the tank is too wide .....so not really sure it will fit a stock frame  :-\

let me know what you think when you try it yourself.

cheers

Or have the petcock relocated.
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

Hi Andy,

Yes that looks just like a Seeley tank. For a Seeley frame. Seeley made two versions of it - one for the dual seat bike and one, larger, for the single seat version, though I have seen pictures of what appear to be other shapes too. Seeley also made the type that you need- the Honda Britain/ Phil Read Replica one, this is a similar outer/upper shape but designed underneath to fit the stock Honda F2 frame and has the petcock at the side - luckily there's a Britain on ebay at the minute (though the owner doesn't realise it seemingly) so you can have a look at one

As to whether you could get it to fit, hmm, lots of work- but a good challenge!

Cheers

Tim

On my Seeley frame there are no front rubber mounts or brackets for the tank rubbers like the stock ones, but my buddy's Seeley frame has the tank rubber mounts on the frame and they work with the tank.
But there are many, many more miracles on Seeley frames during the 3 years production period.

Thanks Tim and thats what I was looking for in terms of the differences. Ok looks like I cant use this on my stock frame then - not really interested in trying to mod it to work as its much wider than the stock frame.

many thanks
Andy

I own a Seeley and I would like to have a second tank  so I am interested in purchasing yours outright or I have a few different custom tanks and maybe one would be suitable as a partial trade for yours. Also, I'll have to go through my files, but I have the name of a company that will make an aluminum tank to your specifications.

Hey cavebear,

I'd be interested in the info for that aluminum tank maker. How affordable are they?
