Need new parts for rear wheel/hub on my K5 - recommended sources?
« on: September 26, 2009, 08:59:21 PM »
Howdy,

I'm in the process of rebuilding the rear wheel/hub etc on my K5.

I need new bearings, rubber shock absorbers, sprocket, and a few small nuts/bolts/washers that the previous owner apparently felt were unnecessary when he last worked on the bike.....

I'm wondering about the best place to get new replacement parts in the US. (Or abroad if I have to.)

I've looked through the FAQ's and I found a few places to start looking but there's a LOT of dead or obsolete links there so I thought I'd ask about where ya'll are getting your parts these days.

I don't care if the parts are aftermarket or OEM.
Are there any places you would recommend or places I should avoid?

Thanks in advance!

Anyone????

I can recommend TAS.  They answer quickly, know their stuff and their prices are good.  Call 'em and talk to Matt.  Just bought a rear 16" rim and spokes from them, shipped to my door for $70.  Asked them about wheel bearings, they had them in stock, knew exactly what I needed.  Haven't ordered them yet, saving up my pennies to make one big order.  Here's their link...

Good luck.

You can get your bearings at a bearing shop - that's about the best price. Ask for them sealed both sides and don't use grease. Parts'n'more has good ones too pretty cheap but as I recall, they don't sell the sprocket bearing. Good place to deal with though. The rubbers: I'd try David Silver Spares in England.

I just went through this with my K8 and rebuilt the entire rear hub in June:

Wheel Bearings from Z1 Enterprises.

Cush drive rubbers, O ring, from the local Honda Dealer.

Brake shoes from Dennis Kirk.

Nobody out there has any recommendations for online parts vendors?  Or any I should avoid?

Anyone have any experience with Bikebandit, old bike barn, or cycle parts warehouse?

Thanks,

Not for hubs, but I buy almost exclusively from Bikebandit nowdays. Fast shipping, don't charge your card till it is shipped. I had a horible experience with Old Bike Barn which my card company got involved to scare them into a refund, and no parts ever exchanged hands. They sell parts that they don't have, and they don't know when they WILL have them. Charge your card instantly too. Sucks if you ask me.

Hey Bobby, have you tried Bookers Bourbon yet?  123.5 to 127 proof, uncut and straight out of the barrel.  Very smooth for that proof.

Yea, i know, I started a hijack.  But someone said Bourbon.

Really give TAS a chance.  Don't forget HavocTurbo (a member).  If he does not have it, he might make sure he does.  There are a lot of members on here that are vendors as well that you can trust.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

No Tip I have not tried Bookers. I have a collection so it looks like from your recommendation I will have to pick some up. Thanks Bro.
