Honda CL90 paint codes?
« on: September 29, 2009, 10:15:17 AM »
I found the following paint codes:

Paint codes:
Imron -
SILVER 5040U
RED 6543U
BLACK 99U
BLUE 63203U

Formulas for Dupont Chroma-One
Honda Red (pint formula)
867J 130.8 gr
851J 243.6 gr
801J 248.2 gr
7020G 459.4 gr
7030G 494.2 gr

Honda Silver Metallic (pint formula)
811J 91.8 gr
806J 97.4 gr
801J 104.8 gr
890J 111.3 gr
7040G 352.0 gr
7050G 453.6 gr

at http://daleandamy.com/dale/hobbies/cl90/index.htm but the local paint shop said this was not enough information. I need the mix code for the silver to paint my tank. Should a paint shop be able to make a base-coat from these numbers? Or does anyone have any more/other information on paint colors? I'd like the tank to match stock color. Also, were the tanks high gloss? The shop wants to do a buffed clear-coat finish, but in all the pictures I have seen of these bikes they appear to have more of a satin finish. Thanks in advance!

Here are the formulas from the Yahoo s90 Forum (highly recommended) Had my local paint supplier mix the silver in Chroma One and put in spray cans. One pint made 4 cans. Did my S90 and and the fenders on my X6 Suzuki and only used 2 cans. Used low gloss "Trim Trim" clear on the S90 fenders and side covers. Honda Red (pint formula). Came out perfect.

These appear to be the same formulas. Do not know why they said they were incomplete.

Trim clear gives a low gloss. Also in aerosol. Used House of Color high gloss on the X6. And it is HIGH GLOSS.

There were two things he said were incomplete:

1) There should be a single number, that they punch into the machine and it mixes the color at the values given. But there was not a way to go the other way around (i.e. from the recipe to the code). This seemed odd to me, but he was pretty firm about it.

2) He also said the codes given were for single-coat Chroma, and that he needed the code for base-coat (because he was going to clear-coat it).

Maybe I better take these numbers to the paint supplier and see what they can do. Thanks for confirming that this recipe is the right color.

The paint codes codes you listed are correct, but too old to be in any database. The best standard code match is 79-85 Mazda RX7 Sunbeam Silver, paint code K3. The red is non-metallic, single stage.
