Mosport Aug/09

Any others there? I saw two 350 fours and met a couple 750's riding in together.

Poor Jeff Peters on the Rickman 750 was nipped at the finish line in P3 heavy.

Yup, I was probably one of the 350 Fours you saw.  There also were a lot of 750s racing on the track - lovely to see and hear.

I rode it in with my son riding my GL1800.  The trip wasn't too far for us - only about 36 miles each way.  However, my float valves are still leaking and I was spewing gas out the overflows unless I flipped the petcock off.  Noticed that problem when we arrived so was switching it on and off all the way home...but we still ran dry the other side of Port Perry.  My son switched bikes to stay with the CB350F at the side of the road while I took the Wing to look for gas.  While I was off, he got it firing again on fumes and limped into town (after stalling on a steep hill that he had to push up) to catch up with me at the first gas station where I was trying to borrow a jerry-can.  We topped it again and then found a beer store to cart home some other fluids.  Adventures on a hot day with an old bike...memories made.

More memories:  Besides riding both my Hondas, my son got a chance to ride some Suzukis at their demo that was at but not on the track (Hayabusa and GSX-R1000).  I tried their new 1250 Bandit which is a very nice sport tourer, in my opinion.

Guess now I really need to clean the rust out of the tank and replace the float valves in my 350 Four.

BTW other than the leaking gas, the little bike ran great.  It was zipping along at 60mph with no problem (except for some steep hills if I didn't get it on a boil first).

HNR, where are you at? 36 miles outside of Mosport can't put you too far away from me.

I am in the Whitby area.

Unfortunately I missed the event as I had to work...bummer!

Quite a day for you HNR. I suppose yours was the 350 with the 4 into 4's. The other 350 had a flat front, glad that wasn't you.

You missed some good racing Dennis, a real good turn out in the pits too.

Man I wish I was 36 miles from the track.

Brent, do you know if Mosport has any sort of regular track day? I am a total novice as I have never done any track riding but have always wanted to try it out. I would want to go with other newbs as anyone else would embarass me!  ;)

The other track I have thought about is Shannonville as I went there a few times to watch some races with a buddy several years ago...I don't think they have any vintage racing though but I could certainly be wrong!!

Dennis,

I'm north of where you are located - just south of Sunderland.  I think that Mosport has track days for certain venues or clubs.  In fact, I think the Vintage Racing group is likely the one you should check as I understand that their membership has track days with very little "special" requirements, and their membership isn't that expensive or difficult to get.

Yes bwaller, mine was the 350 Four with the 4 into 4's.  I had a brief talk with the owner of the other and he was complaining that one of his tires had a leak.  I would be happier if that was my only problem instead of leaking overflow valves.  It was interesting to see his bike though, as it was the same year as mine and looked to have even less miles (about 3K) than mine (5K).

Dennis, I don't know about Mosport track days, but it seems all tracks have some body organizing these. I think there may actually be more days at Shannonville though. The fast school operates there.
