The pipes fit well but I learned from everyone else's posts. I loose fitted them with the flanges on first, slid the long bolts in loosely, made the connectors fit at the rear, then snugged the mount bolts. Next I got the flanges where I wanted them, rolled up a towel and used it and a plastic hammer to get the engine connections where they needed to be.  1 and 4 were too far from the heads.

Next I tightened everything that wasn't.  Then I opened 24 packages of washers and screws to put the heat shields on and installed the baffles which were removed to paint the insides of the mufflers. Next I need to clean the paint from the drain holes.

I tried to install the recessed plug switch but the round pin connector on the existing one is stuck. They're always a challenge. The one on the 70 is too loose, this one is too tight. Go figure.

I finally got it done, Out of all my 750's I have found one tabbed washer to locate the switch properly. Of course I put it on here. I think there should be a smooth washer too, I need to check that out.

Thanks for the encouragement, it's such a nice example already. The body sidecovers were crystalized into crumbs and my original Honda replacements got painted new color and don't match the fade on the tank. No way am I painting the tank.

This plug switch clicks like it's new. Imaluckyboy.
I do like the sound, I have to admit, it sounds awesome but there's nothing much sweeter than the hooker 4/2 header. 1/4 on one side 2/3 on the other. My brother wants it for his 836 powered K2. Not yet.
Next up, I want to strip the chrome from the left side engine covers. The chrome rocker cover is pretty nice and I bought a sandcast replacement in case it doesn't strip well, but for now i'm leaving it and the clutch cover chrome.

I dug out the temporary engine covers, I seem to need gaskets and a shift seal. Might as well buy 2 of everything. I wonder if the old chap stick on the gasket trick will let me re-use them? I even polished a clutch cover plate for the hot rod bike and mounted it. My new goal is do at least one productive thing to a bike every day.
I read the future EPA regulations will put an end to a lot of the shops stripping chrome so I'm acting now.

No, but he was very interested. My 4 year old granddaughter was here, earlier she told her mom about  the big brown truck, it brings Papa's cycle tools. It came today and she was here to help open the box. When her dad came to pick her up she said she couldn't go because we were going to work in the shop. Lol. I had to promise to let her help next time.

He's English Mastiff / Bloodhound. He's conflicted by his bloodlines, he loves to sniff out a trail but only to the end of the yard. lol. 170 lbs, his mama overfeeds him. And me too.

Not bad at all, we did have long haired dogs before him so maybe it just seems better. He's down to 165 lbs today good deal. He has food allergies and we're trying all meat.

Here's the seat foam, as seen in tech talk,

Don,

What's left on your build, aside from replacing the seat padding?

It's really not a build, I'm struggling with whether I should even replace the foam. I went to great lengths to get the original rear wheel (had to buy the bike it was on)
I'm trying to only re-install the original parts and maintain it like the original owner would.
To answer the question, the side covers and airbox are repainted and don't match the tank at all, I need to remedy that and do fork seals and gaiters.
I finally was able to get in touch with his son who rode it to school in then 70's. He confirmed my suspicion that his Dad sprayed all the chrome down with WD40 before parking it. Several people told me they could have bought it for $300 any time over a period of years, the WD40 and dirt scared everyone else away. It was beautiful under the dirt.

I sat down and wrote the history of the bike, as much as I know anyway. It gets a little windy or I'd post it somewhere.  We know who bought it new, his son, the guy that assembled it from the crate and  the guy that always worked on it after warranty. The title wasn't original only because the owners widow had put it in her name after he passed away.  It all seemed to fall into place, small town and strong memories.
