I only worry when I leave it parked somewhere. I figure there are new bikes riding around with the same value. That said, I don't ride it every day, and I don't ride it hard, well, very often. It did go 95 this spring but I felt bad later because what if I hurt it.
My junky old goldwing is the shop mule. I don't know the miles on it or care much as long as it starts every time.
My buddy with the 59 Harley that always won't start's wife got him a newer (2002) one with an  electric start. He was complaining he threw out his thumb trying to fire it up. What a jerk.

I removed one more piece of chrome from the sandcast, the right front motor mount was chromed and is getting a little crusty so I swapped it for a new looking black painted one.  Tiny changes but they add up. Next up is to find correct non chromed bolts.

I rode the Sandcast bike to the Drag Strip Saturday afternoon. I fully intended to make a pass on it but not having been down the track on a bike, I considered the worst case scenario of knocking a hole in the case and just chickened out.  Going home after dark I missed all the Deer but hit all the bugs.

I think over the winter I am going to swap out most of the chrome engine bits on my 550 with stock bits from one of my two other 550 engines. Probably cases from the '74 and cam cover from the '77 to get the better rocker shaft setup. I wouldn't mind the chrome if it were in good shape, but since most of it is peeling I will just replace it with polished.

I had a couple pieces peeling so bad I totally peeled them myself and finished the aluminum with scotchbrite and aluminum polish.  They went on the 70 bike, The 69 still has a chrome rocker cover that I have a proper sandcast type replacement for but I'll probably strip it if it ever looks bad or the motor needs attention.  Rock Island Plating strips for about $20 a part with a $100 minimum. They offer aluminum polishing also.

I ordered the new body parts from J F Marks for the 70, I found a nice headlight at a swap meet and already have some of frankenbikes side covers so I ordered a new airbox, fork gaiters and headlight ears. Yamiya just went on vacation so it will be around the end of the month.  I'm still torn but it's an 11/69 build so it must be candy blue green like it was new. The gold sure is pretty though.

My brother gave me a nice cb headlight mount with a Stanley bulb in it. Hope it works. The repro seat on the diecast went on the 72 project bike, when I sell the 72 the diecast bike can have a new ducktail seat.

I got an invoice for the new parts so I assume they came in today. I'm going through a 72 big bore 750 to resell, maybe  at the Davenport Swap meet.  I need to make money for the paint job on the diecast.

I rode the Sandcast to the abate bash in Knox co. Il. In the afternoon my phone said the weather was moving away but I got caught in a thunderstorm. I'd bet the old girl hasn't been wet like that since when I was a lot younger man. The inside of my wallet was even wet.
The upside is Eagle 1 spray wax as you dry. It's not ready for the Davenport swap meet and show this week but will be soon.

Dang, it turned over 9,500 miles too. Once it goes over 10K I won't feel bad about adding miles any more.

The Yamiya parts arrived for the Diecast bike. Now there's a wrinkle tank, headlight ears, headlight bucket, frankenbike side covers, and a white yamiya smooth air filter box ready for paint.
Is it crazy to buy a repro smooth air filter box for a bike with mag wheels, 4-1 header and a K4 836 kitted engine?  It still needs a side cover emblem. Is anyone still making custom ones?

I had the tank off today and it looks good naked. I'm happy with everything I've done with it in the last 6 or 7 years. The PO would crap his pants if he saw it now, after the way he left it.
I just remembered the tank stripes, one more thing I'll need.

There is an upside to multiple bikes. You can swap parts around to make more than one better.  The new to me 72 had 6" over forks, the dragbike had stock forks with the rusty tops exposed, I put the stock rusty tops on the stock 72 where the tops are covered and used new replacement tubes on the dragbike since they are chrome all the way up. The 70 had a nice seat but when I got it there weren't any repop ducktail seats around. I moved the 70's seat to the 72 where it looks correct and bought a new reproduction ducktail seat for the 70 bike. When I lowered the 70 with blocks, that required cutting the chain guard for the shock to clear so I trimmed an old chrome one and that freed up a nice short one that could upgrade the one on the Sandcast.

Thanks Larry, I hope yours was as fun as my weekend was. I laid out all of the K0 restoration parts as they go on the bike to determine what's missing. I need sidecover emblems and tank decals, Mesh for the louvers is here somewhere, I'll post a pic as soon as my computer co-operates.

I was rotating parts for the K2 and wanted to put the newest gaiters on the K0, I noticed the fork tubes weren't so great so I stole the new ones bought  for the K2 drag bike and tried the swap. Apparently I'd never done fork seals on the 70 K0, and so begins the tale of woe.
I learned the early 750's have 450 fork lowers. Maybe the tubes too. The fork seals for my K2 forks didn't fit at all, they are 2mm oversize OD for the early forks, the snap ring which snapped in two is also a silly mm smaller than standard. 37 compared to the newer one's 38 mm.
Someone has generic 37mm snap rings on ebay for $5 each compared to $14 for Honda parts. Grainger and fastenall have them cheap, if I didn't have to buy a bag full. All ballz has the smaller fork seals since they also fit a 450. 35x46x11 for the K0 and 35X48X11 for K1 and up.

Two sets of tank decals are on the way, one K0 and one K2. I may get creative and swap them, I think the k2 stripe with black gold and pearl white would look #$%*in on Candy Blue Green.

One of the parts bikes I drug home today has a sandcast engine in it, 1002695. I rubbed my eyes and looked again. It was still there.  I didn't expect to be pleased with this collection of junk but I've already assembled a nice K4 out of the parts and found this gem. It appears to have the late head on it though. I do have a 104xxxx diecast motor stuck hard but I haven't taken it apart yet.

Another one seemed to have a blank number pad but after a little spit bath I could see it was stamped.

Great Score...............Sorry I missed you at Davenport............I was there for most of Friday while travelling home from Bonneville............Had a nice talk with David Silver.  I bought a few CL77 parts. I have a few K0 parts (domestic rhino-horn triple/front wheel/one fork-leg - chromed/and some brake parts) but no bike. I also have a very rough set of no-number pipes and two rough sets of HM300 pipes but only one pipe is presentable 'as-is'......and a dented double-cut front fender. I have to move my stash so the price could be right ;)

I took a 750 to Super Chevy at cordova, this guy had my phone number and was sitting on it undecided. Then his wife said he is moving to somewhere warm and he was forced to call me. I just thought he had a few parts, I get there and it's 6 bikes. The price was good and he's a decent guy, loves his cb750's. I think he's checking me out before asking me to build him one, unfortunately it's the one he was hit by a drunk driver on and it's bent severely.

My brother sold me 2, the FnK and a K2 and I found a k1 on a Facebook link to a Craigslist ad. There was money left in the racing account from selling 4 bikes earlier this year.

Larry, it's true we backed up on the Drag Racing schedule a little. We're just running one association now. My Driver has her band and a lot of hobbies. We do well when we do go, and when something in the valvetrain doesn't break. I put a slightly smaller cam in it, it didn't lose much mph and hopefully will be easier on parts.

I'm hoping to sell a few of these gems to fund raise for my 69 firebird project. The problem is, I like working on them and can always see the possibilities, the downside is finding space and maintaining a few running bikes.

I've been taking the newly purchased bike collection apart, disposing of parts not usable and boxing parts to use in the future. The diecast got a couple newer small parts. Mouse pee really destroys chrome, one seat is totally mouse gutted foam wise.
I'm using the cut off frame from a K2 to make an engine cradle for the sandcast crankcase, It looks OK but wants to roll forward. I'll bolt some wooden rails to the bottom.
