He added on to the shop (new building) and the boxes of parts got lost in the back room. He recently noticed them sitting back there and realized he'd forgotten about it. lol. I'm going after lunch to pick it up.

The next question is, do I leave the ported, too big cam, k4 836 or rebuild the no number K0 replacement engine for it?  It is turning into more resto than mod. L0L! New sidecover emblems are in the mail and the repro ductail seat is on but it still has the late Yoshi looking header with a Dunstall look long muffler. Runs like a scalded dog and sounds awesome but looks a little odd. (Not in this picture)

The body shop called and she's painted! woo hoo! He said the peanut gallery loves the color! She's been under construction since 2009 and I've owned it longer than that.
On behalf of the board, you need to stop posting and go get the tins so we can see what they look like!  ;D  Err, I mean...you should go get the painted parts because I'm sure you are anxious to see them.

The snow kept me from going after them, the county police suggested I stay off the icy road. Tomorrow however is another day. I'll try to get the pic moved to google and then here.

It's supposed to be candy blue green. it looks awfully dark, I gave him the paint codes from a NOS sidecover I had shot by a paint rep. Here's hoping it's just the photo and it's lighter in person.

I think it just needs some daylight on it. Inside pics tend to make  the color look dark. JMHO

I picked it up, it may be a little dark but not too bad. It's a shame he didn't have a sample to go on. In the sunlight it does look good though. The new sidecover emblems are here. I may need to get a stock exhaust now.

I told him my plan and he seemed interested. I need to sell a couple bikes, I have the money for the chassis but not to make it a roller, those big brakes are expensive.  They come with Wilwood spindles on the front and the back will be easy. I could forgo rear brakes for a while to get it home on a trailer.

That looks great Don, well done! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thanks. Really, I thought it was too blue and too dark. I just took it all out of the boxes in the mix of florescent and LED lights and it turned green and really pops.  Regardless it's painted. Tomorrow I take my brother to his dr apt at the VA but this weekend I'm going to put on the trim and gas caps etc. The Z1 supplied sidecover emblems came last week and the tank badges will be double taped on like the ones I've done recently.

I began pre assembly of the 70, I got the smooth air box assembled using old hardware from a corrugated air box. I'm glad I have a complete sandcast air box to look at, it was cracked on the bottom from being overtightened I was able to avoid the issue on this new one by adding a pair of stop nuts so it can't draw up too tight. The sidecover emblems are on, the holes are a little closer together than stock but I hadn't drilled the new sidecovers yet so that worked out.
Advance auto parts sells an aluminum mesh that looks perfect in the sidecover louvers. It's usually used to hold bondo when covering a hole. This is a better use lol. I painted it black, cut it to fit and next it gets hot glued in place.

There was a batch of Honda wrenches on ebay for a long time, the 3 K0 end wrenches are in the set and the cast shock wrench too. I'll have a few spares I could pass along or trade including a couple of the 8/12mm. I got a few Kawasaki wrenches for my KZ kit and a couple of the usual cb end wrenches too. I'm in need of an old wrench extension with the hole through it.

It's funny, I just reread through the thread to remind myself how long it's been going on, this paint took 9 years to happen and I've had the sandcast 4 1/2 years.
I'm watching JT Marks new in the box speedometer for $1500+ on ebay. I even have a sandcast gear drive for mine, the perceived value makes it difficult to bolt it to that bike.

I have a Yamiya order on the way from JT marks.
I went through the carbs, the old black tank has the late petcock with no screen and at some point a little rust got washed into the bowls. I had filters on but apparently not all of the time. The ribbed airbox showed signs of fuel washing in so I rebuilt another petcock, again.
The last thing I want is fuel in a freshly painted airbox. I did add stop nuts to the wing bolts so the box can't be overtightened and squished. It's getting a chrome sprocket cover and then I'm pulling the forks for the headlight ear sap.

Nice! I didn't know that there was a later Petcock with no screen Don, or do you mean it's a later tank with the petcock on the shifter side? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yes, Terry it is on the shifter side and it was missing the inside the tank part. I should have known better than use it but when you gotta ride you do what it takes. lol. It's really clean inside, I washed it out and fogged it today. No dents and no bondo it's a keeper.

No worries Don, it's nice to have a tank with the same capacity it had when it rolled off the showroom floor! ;D

I pulled the headlight and the gauges, next I need to drop the forks. I polished the top triple and don't like the look. I'm thinking black powder coat. This would also be a good time for the DSS K1 European handlebars. Waiting on my Yamiya order.

I gotta go, there's a box sitting out front. My wife says don't touch it but it's from Bill Benton with K1 stuff. woohoo!

I pulled the forks apart and the top triple is broken. I just got a spare from Bill Benton (must have esp) anyway, I was just sick and put it all away and went in the house.
I'm assuming the D washers aren't the proper thickness so I'm researching this now. The number that seems to come up is .090" I may go back out to check what was in there just so I can sleep. I remember making two out of head washers a long time ago but I was thinking this bike always had some in it.
My Yamiya order is on the way from JT, so I need to powder coat the two good unicorn triples that I have left and finish this forever project.

Too bad you can't warm them up enough to seal the crack, but to do that you are going to need some molds as that liquid aluminum alloy is going to try and make a run for it. ;)
Sorry for your loss Don...hope you can progress through the grieving process quickly.  Imagine it cannot be tig'd given the thickness of the metal and amount of work to slowly bring it back to perfect shape would be huge.  Wonder if Jim French has ever tried to weld one?  Or? Is it a safety thing now?

The old triple killer washers are .086 thick, the ones that came in my Bill Benton triple are .090 thick. You wouldn't think the .004 difference would be a triple breaker but it, apparently coupled with my degree of torque applied is.
