Rickman Kawasaki Z1 whats it worth?
« on: October 01, 2009, 01:59:06 PM »
So a friend of a friend calls me today about an old bike. Says its a Rickman Kawasaki with a Z1 engine. It is apart and has been for a number of years. He's got 95% of what is needed to reassemble. All the body stuff is there, engine is complete. He's looking to get $800. Are these bikes worth putting back together? I've never seen one.

Well first it depends on what condition the body is in. Paint still ok? Frame etc...

If everything is new but just dusty I'd say you found yourself a diamond in the rough.

Otherwise it's worth about as much as a well done CB750. Or in your case 550.  ;D

I suppose you could pawn it off to a Z1 purist for a mint.... but might take your whole life for that.

Ship it to Europe...they're worth several thousand pounds over here in any condition. They're considered the working man's Bimota.

Bite the guy's hand off.

it isnt worth anything, just send it to me  ;D seriously though, if it's even close to complete it's well worth the money

Even with no motor, I am betting you could make money on it...

not like there is a surplus of nickle plated racing frames for Jap 4s.. anywhere I know of...

Just another view of the Z1.  Yes they are worth a lot of $$$ to someone that's looking for one.  I was given a Z1 about 1 year ago.  To date I have about $8,000 in it and I haven't bought the expensive 4 into 4 exhaust yet.  I saw one go for $15k a couple of years ago at the Half Moon Bay CA Concourse Bike show.  Bottom line they're worth a lot, but depending on the condition will cost a lot to restore.  You can check mine out at www.jvcycles.com.  Go to the Z1 restoration page... Good luck
