pressing in the keihin main jets with new o-rings
« on: October 01, 2009, 07:28:45 pm »
I ordered new o-rings for my keihin 110 main jets on my '75 550.  The o-rings are 3.5mm x 1.5mm Buna.

I was tapping the new jets in with the smallest hammer imaginable and everytime I tap the jet in fully, it cuts some of the excess rubber off the o-ring that wouldn't fit into the carb body.....make sense?

Anyways, I was wondering if this is normal and if the jet will seal proplerly?

The jets seem tight in the carb body.

I did some searching on here and from what I found, I ordered the correct o-ring size.  They are from Mcmaster-Carr.

A little spit will help it slide in w/o losing any skin off the surface.   Jokes aside, this is my proven technique for tight rubbers... assuming they are indeed the right size. ;)

+1 on the spit.

Also, don't tap them in.  Instead, push firmly while rocking the jet, I like to use a slight circular motion to ease the jet in.

You can use oil to lube things up too, when you run gas through the carbs it'll wash the oil off.
