ok its a cb350f which has been sitting for probably 4 years and i have been working on it off and on a little the last 4 months and i figured today lets fire her up even though she didn't have the handlebars/controls on.  So you know i did a quick tank restore with new fuel filter , new air filter, new spark plugs, caps, and cables, new oil and oil filter.

after a while nothing she coughed a little but bringing hope to my eyes but still nothing

i did what i knew from the past i checked the spark i pulled out each plug and tested it , wow! all the new spark stuff made those things light up like fireworks! so that wasn't it

i tried choke on/off in every variation, had a string hooked up to the throttle a giving it gas, nothing, sprayed starter fluid through the air intake , it seemed like it helped a little but not enough

also to mention this was done with the kick start since the handle bars were off , then i grounded the ignition button wire and na,na,na,na,na good starter sounding but nothing

i also ground the kill switch (black and white wire) to a black wire

so that brings us to my 1 question with info

Why won't the bike??

my ideas?

1. maybe bypassing the kill switch isn't working, i have never worked or owned a cb in the past so i don't know the characteristics of their kill switch,  is the kill switch suppose to turn off the triple tree top lights? or eliminate the spark??

2. and i never did take my carbs apart, and gas was flowing out of the overflow tubes , is it could the carbs be so gunked up that no gas is able to pass ?

thanks and any ideas or thoughts would help Greatly

james

i would really like someone to tell me how the characteristics of the kill switch work again?

Yah, I think you answered your own question. You have good spark so now it is time to get into the carbs. The over-flowing is the bike telling you where to look next...

Smell your plugs to see if you are getting gas in the cylinders.  If so check your timing.  Sure your ignition wires are in the right cylinders?

the sparks were pretty darn dry they had some haze on the but probably from crap in the engine being moved around after 4 years and kicking it down like jackie chan

I don't think that's your prob since you've got spark. If the kill was fouled up, you wouldn't have spark

You need 3 things. fuel, spark and compression. if you have these and it still won't start check the timing.

James, you may be entering a relationship with your carbs you never thought you would have...!!, but all in order for your bike to run...
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Kill switch is a power interrupt.  Black wires are hot 12v when the key switch is on.  Blk/Wht is coil power input.

If you are used to seeing black wires as ground, then re-educate yourself.  For Honda, Green wires are ground.
For not starting, I suspect the tiniest fuel passage is blocked in the carbs.  That would be the pilot jets.

I agree with TT. Once your carbs have bee pulled and thoroughly cleaned, then check the timing. Make sure the spark is sparking at the right time.

I ran my 350 for a few months with my kill switch bypassed. Kill switch shouldn't affect the dash lights.

You can isolate that it is the carbs by just spraying some starter fluid in the air box and trying to start it. Should fire right up for a couple seconds regardless of the condition of the carbs.
