squids, especially the rich, entitled ones, make me laugh
« on: October 02, 2009, 04:07:19 PM »
we live across the street from a private school and among the vehicles these kids drive are 2 vipers, a hummer H1, a couple of classic porsches and a new bmw k1200r, their 165 hp, inline 4 sport bike. i;ve been watching this dip#$%* kid leave out of the parking lot daily, half the time the thing nearly gets away from him and he rides like an idiot. about 10 minutes ago, i heard the bike coming down the drive from the school so i looked out the window just in time to see dumbass pull a massive wheelie, unfortunately he and the bike parted company almost immediately, unfortunately for him and the parked car the bike hit. i ran out to render first aid if he was hurt, right after i called the police and told em i just saw a bike wreck out front. the one smart thing this punk kid has done is he has top of the line alpinestars gear so he doesnt have a scratch on him. i got out there and asked him if he was ok and the little snot says "what the #$%* does it look like? are you stupid?" i nearly felt bad for him till that comment. so, i heckled and laughed at him from my front porch till the police got here. i avout wet myself i laughed so hard. i know the police officer and as he got out of his patrol car, he told me he'd be over in a bit to get my witness statement, and as he walks toward the kid he's doing his best not to laught at the little punk too.

the thing that really sickens me is that alot of the motorcycle dealers here wont sell the high powered motorcycles to anyone under 21, so the parents come in and get the bike without the kid. i've seen way too many people hurt or killed because theyre a beginner rider, on their first motorcycle and they choose a model of bike that has enough power to change the weather. hopefully this little peckerhead learned his lesson and will be more careful from now on, though i highly doubt it. the forest acres officer that was on the scene came into the house to get my witnesses statement and i told him how many times i've seen this kid do all sorts of stupid #$%* and nearly lose it a bunch of times. he said he's had to notify way too many parents that their little darling has hurt himself real bad or gotten killed. i've been riding for nearly 20 years and i still dont feel that i have enough skill to ride one of the litre bikes to their potential.

If only my generation and even the generation below me would understand this...I had a 250 ninja and a 500 ninja with a properly setup suspension and I could ride circles around guys who only moments before were talking about how they HAD to get the GSXR1000 because the 600's just didn't have the power they needed. Yes somehow...i'm riding a bike 15 years older with less than half the horsepower, and i'm having WAYYYYY more fun and paying WAYYYY less in insurance lol.

We need to follow Britain's lead and have a stepped licensing system in place. I work at a dealer and I have seen too many squids come in and buy the latest hyper bike (rather, mommy buys it for them) and they have no clue how to ride. A common comment is "Yeah, I used to ride a dirt bike!" And how does this qualify you to throw a leg over a 150hp rocket on the street? More than once I have seen a kid grab a handful of throttle and launch his new toy right across four lanes of traffic (and the median) into a ditch the other side of the hiway! Gee, maybe you ought to learn how to ride FIRST!!!

I put these kind of things to my favorite saying.....They have lots of DOLLARS and little cents (SENSE)....JFK Jr. was in the same situation. Plane was more than he was able to handle and you know the outcome. I love to watch these kids trying to be the next big stunt rider and as they separate from the bike....one or the other or even both end up a wreak.

I can still remember a case a few years ago in England where a rich father bought his 18 year old son a Ferarri!!! The kid went out showing off and lost control, killing an innocent bystander. As the judge sentenced the young man he stated that he wished it were within his power to sentence the father as well. He stated that giving such a powerful vehicle to an inexperienced driver was criminal. Pity that the rich don't think like the rest of us.

I love the fact that I spent my initial driving years in Holland, at 16 the biggest baddest thing i could own was a 50cc moped...sure I hopped it up like crazy...but it's scary that 10hp was a LOT of horsepower lol. Then at 18 I could take lessons and drive a car, and get my motorcycle license for bikes up to 250cc's.

Plus if we had that, we'd have a lot more of the cool 250's that europe and the rest of the world gets....

That's the problem here now - the bike test is so damn hard and insurance so high you almost have to be a born again biker to afford it BUT it does mean proportionately the biking community is safer.

The issue we now have is idiot kids buying cheap little hatchback cars and modifying the hell out of them so it's beyond their ability to drive them at the speeds they do. At 17 you can drive any car you can afford and that's why 25 year old and under males constitute the single biggest accident group in the UK. And I betthey don't tell their insurers about the modifications.

If it was me in power, I'd limit horsepower like with the bikes (33BHP for under 21s) and make it law for under 25s not to be able to drive a car capable of more than 30mph....that's the least controversial of my "if I came to power" laws :D

It scares the hell out of me that kids that young have bikes that powerful.  Hell, when 9/10 of the original owners of our sohcs had their start riding, they were flogging trail 50s, 90s, 125s, etc etc.  now we have 17 and 18 year olds on modern rockets? ugh.

Too bad his pride wasn't bruised a little, Fuzz. ;)

If you get caught "wheelee-ing" a  bike in Florida now...you loose the bike.

According to a cop friend of mine, most sport bike riders don't have the motorcycle endorsement and some don't even have a license. And, most of the time they don't chase them for offenses as they have had too many chases end badly.

Whoa....are you telling me that Fla. passed a law outlawing a wheelie? If so, what do they consider a wheelie? Front tire off ground? or for a period of time? or a certain distance? And if they don't chase to enforce, why even have it in the first place?

Learned on a 250 Nighthawk - in the rider saftey course.  First bike was a GS850GL with all the touring stuff...first day, grabbed a mittful of throttle, wobbled, fell over.

Looking back now, I can't believe my parents let me buy that thing...but I am very glad they didn't let me get a crotch-rocket.  I'd be dead now.  Kids are idiots, plain and simple...and giving idiots that much power is asking for it.

Yup. I learned on a kawi 125 eliminator at the rider safety course.  My 650 is my first bike, and I was still pretty intimidated in the beginning.

dude, no kidding

#$%*s like this buy liter+ bikes, rip around like crazy, get hurt, then say 'motos are dangerous'

no, guys like this are dangerous.

I started out on a cb200 when I was 16. passed my moto test on it easy. everyone else there failed on their big bikes. one guy on a brand new ducati got pist after he failed and roared off on a wheelie. got pulled over immediately. dummy.

I used to ride that 200 from seattle to vancouver bc every weekend. with my skateboard on my back!

americans are obsessed with bigger. size is everything. 1st question always- displacement size?

big bikes defeat the purpose of having a bike in my opinion. guys like this need to go back to their SUV's.

I wish they came out with smaller bikes in the States, but they argue that 'no one will buy them'.  Damn shame.

Seems to me that Gixxer just attracts stupid.

I was on a CBR board awhile back and there was a long discussion on 600 vs. 1000.  good read, most of the guys claimed that a 600 would beat a 1k in twisties, and has more than enough power and handling.

Here, post one.

Im still amazed to this day that im still alive really...First actual street bike was a CBR900RR that had been opened up to 950cc. Granted the bulk of my experience was from dirt bikes starting down at a 50cc yamaha then moving up to a suzuki RV125 dual sport..then on to an RM250 followed by a CR500. then from the CR to the CBR900. Mind you i kept in mind this was a far more powerful bike then i was used to when i had it. Still kinda overpowered for me at first. after a couple seasons of riding i got comfortable with the machine. Figured ok...i survived being a 1K class rider time to get something newer...traded the CBR on an R1...had that bike less then 5 months because i got into an accident with a buddies R6....yea..thats right..the bike that put me into the ICU was a 600 not a 1K. Anyways....sold the R1 while i was recovering from that wreck. Now heres the kicker....i had a sort of system in place to ensure some rich punk didnt get it. It was too much bike for a newb especially considering i had some mods done to it to make it more powerful then stock. (young and stupid with too much cash myself those days). anyways in the ads i had for it i had the disclaimer "For Experienced Riders only!!!!!" None the less some rich daddy managed to bypass system i had in place (which was friends that i rode with when i had the 900 and the R1 so they knew what skill level would be needed for the R1 and would refuse to allow anyone without it to contact me personally on its sale). I suspect he used his own experience and said it was his sons to get past that. Anyways...rich punk got bike...was in morgue in less then a month an a half later...pulling a wheelie down a highway and ran head on into a Mack hauling a load of oil. Anyways...that was long winded i know. I now have the Interceptor which is a 750 and its more then enough machine for me. I know what can happen when you outride your skill level..i have the replacement parts in my knee to remind me.

Haha! I took the motorcycle endorsement test on the bike I have now (76 SS, it was my dad's at the time). I got one mark off for putting a foot down on the u-turn, and passed with a good score. Little did I know that a lot of bikes weigh less than 500 lbs! I still think these bikes are heavy as hell, top-heavy, especially.

On a related note, I took my driver's license test in a Chevy Caprice station wagon, one of the old, huge models. Our nickname for it was the "grey whale". Passed the parallel parking and everything.

I do think learning on older, heavier, underpowered machines helps one in driving newer, lighter, faster models. I also still ride an old steel Schwinn bicycle. That fuKKer weighs a ton, too. So if I ever got a new bike, I would tear it up, right? Sheesh, I'm showing my inner Luddite, now.

i drove a hearse for about 5 years. of all the different cars i've had it is one of the favourites. it was pearl grey with purple, blue, silver flames and torq thrust wheels. that thing would carry 6 people AND all the ski gear when we went up to stowe for skiing.
