I guess it's been up for a while but I've just learned of the Anne Frank YouTube channel. Below is actual film footage of Ms. Frank looking out of an upper story window. Check it out and the 'channel'.

Emma Thompson speaking about A. Frank.

I thought she had lived secluded and hidden for years, hiding from the nazis.

yes she did for many years but before she went into hiding life was a little more normal - well as you could get in an occupied country. Have you guys ever been to the house? It's an awesome place and a very very humbling experience... :'(

I've been to the house in Amsterdam where the Franks hid during the War...the house in the vid. must be the house they had to leave during the Nazi occupation of Holland........

It really pisses me off when I hear people deny that there was a Holocaust.  My mom's older brother and 2 sisters lived in Poland when the war broke out.  Her brother was murdered by the Nazis.  Her one sister was a forced laborer and the other escaped to a forest too large to be completely searched by the German Army. They both survived the war.  As the survivors of the camps and veterans who over ran them die off, there will more people proclaim that this never happened.  By the was my family is Roman Catholic.

My Mother in Law and her younger brother would spend weeks in the woods in Poland to avoid the forced labor roundups. They are also Catholic. Evil tends not to discriminate. It is important the kids are taught those lessons in School and hopefully nothing like that will happen again.

One of the guys in our servicing crew had what I considered an unreasonable hatred of all things German, turns out he joined the army in 43 wound up in the P.P.C.L.I. and went through one of the death camps just after it was liberated. God I hate to think what would've happened if he'd met one of the deniers in person cause he was one tough S.O.B. with attitude to match. Apologists for the Fascists, Nazis and or Communists or who ever that kill millions or even tens should be subjected to the same treatment that the victims went through.

The teaching part is what concerns me.  As the eyewitnesses to what happened die off, who will speak for the dead ??  Rewriting of history for political reasons is widespread.

Would love to talk to someone who's denying the Holocaust. Am from Holland an a regular visitor of memorials in Western Europe, last week visited a camp in Eastern Holland called Westerbork from which 102.000 people were sent to several camps to be killed, only 5000 survived!  Also Anne worked here before she was transported not to return, but she was one of many children.
Just being in such a place makes you real humble.

one thing that strikes me as significant is the display of perseverance. in the face of the darkest evil people like anne refuse to wither. it was that glimmer of good, piercing through, that i also saw in the midst of 9/11.

sometimes the best of humanity is most clearly seen during the ugliest of times.

and i think every single school kid should visit a holocaust memorial or museum.

Great question. The Jewish organizations have made a concerted effort to videotape the survivors and that record will survive. The Jews will never let this period of pure evil be forgotten.

There's lots of good recording of first hand survivors, this will never truly get hidden by any of the denial crowd. Although a hollywood representation it's good that we also get films like Schindler's list, The Pianist and the latest Daniel Craig film (can't remember it's name!) - have you seen that one Bobby? All about the Polish gangs living in the forests - amazingly determined people...

Yes i did see it and i enjoyed it. Those are the groups my Mother In Law would hide out with. Her Fathers boyhood friend was a Big Shot and a Nazi collaborator., he would give her Father a heads up and the kids would leave.
Funny thing is, she was born in the US and her family returned to Poland when she was 2. She lived through the War and when the Communists took over, she was deported to the US. She was given a quickie passport at the US Embassy and then stuck on the USS Ernie Pyle. She has been everywhere in Eurpoe but Poland.

Thanks for posting this.

And thanks to all of you for your humanity.

Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to go off and get angry and frustrated and cry a bit.  And then maybe think of a way to redeem my life by contributing to a little more decent and civil society.  Because we all need to do that.  Add to the righteousness, and speak out and act against the evil.

well said!

saw defiance too and enjoyed it much. watching the extra features can't help but bring a tear to my eye; no way could hollywood write a better story. i think at least a couple of the brothers live(ed) here in the 'states, and it raised the notion that i could one day bump into someone like them and not even know. pretty humbling.

One of my ambitions is to get to the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem to pay my respects to Oskar Schindler...I'm not Jewish, I just have a great respect for the sacrifices he made to save so many people. I'm in awe of the humanity that man showed for his fellow man, it makes you feel very small beside such a great sacrifice...

Hey Ecosse - didn't the brothers start up a trucking company or something. Another amazing true life story - it really is better than fiction isn't it and to think Bobby's family was part of the same story, just amazing.

Actually that is my Wife's family. My German and Italian ancestors were here during both World Wars. I am sure on my German side there were outstanding warrants prompting the move here.

My Father was drafted out of his job, and never spent a day in basic training. They sent him back to work with the rank of Lt. He helped design and build the trigger mechanism for a new type of bomb right in the middle of Manhattan. It was quite dangerous crossing the streets around Broadway. He got a bunch of citations and I was able to go to College for free. (Nothing is really free)

My poor Father in Law was in the first wave at Normandy. All he got was deaf in one ear and nightmares for the rest of his long life. Her Family really suffered.

i think you're right about one or more of the brothers getting into trucking in ny(?). what a far cry from living like robin hood in the forest!

i have to say, as a pious but 'none practicing' (if there be such a thing) christian, i have much respect for the jewish faith and admire greatly israel and its citizens.

on that note, i dearly hope this doesn't mutate into a political thread. this i feel is about universal right and wrong and about triumph of the soul.

I think it has nothing to do with Politics, it has do with the the darkest regions of the human psyche. There have been other Holocausts in history. The Third Reich took it too a new level of efficiency.
