New member, new project maybe...

Hey-hey!  I just picked up a '71 CB750 motor w/an RC distributor, stock carbs, an 836cc hi-comp kit, a 'HOT' cam (no idea) and nothing to put it in....

Been building custom Ducati Monsters for the past 5 years now (www.flightcycles.com) so I've got experience with those no problem.  (Not that I'm pimping my shop here, just a moto-head w/lots of Duc experience but NO Honda experience yet...)

In fact...I think Honda is the only Japanese make I haven't owned...  Hmmmm...yup, that's correct.

I'm thinking of maybe a rigid drag-chopper w/lots of early '70s flair (metal flake, Moon-eyes fuel and oil tank, etc...)

Ideas?

Thoughts?

Suggestions?

Welcome duck-stew.  I'm sure alot of the guys are thinking "is he waiting for our permission?!"  oh well, they're excited for you ;)

Go for though... seriously.  Keep us posted with words AND pics.  And scouring this forum you'll be sure to find a wonderful spot for other bikes and bike builds.  Might be a good spot to showcase some Duc stuff.

Not waiting for permission...  Just curious as to the pitfalls that one may encounter with such a vintage beast is all...

Oh yeah, and since it got the 'fresh'  ::) 836cc kit 20 years ago, it has had (perportedly) ZERO miles so a re-fresh is in order I'm assuming...

Rings & valve-springs?  More than that?

I pick it up in a week or so, and will begin a tear-down to assertain where I stand at that point.  Things to look for?!?

i can't wait... please do this! check out cycle x as they do 750 chops.

tons of pitfalls actually.  My wallet fell into a pit because of my bike long ago :D

Duck,

Check out www.hondachopper.com.  It's the SOHC4.net of honda chops.  Great bunch of guys, they've just about seen it all.  You can pick up plenty of chopper parts over there.  You can get just about any frame you can think of made from members on that forum.

One thing I would suggest would be to pull the engine down and go through it to make sure everything is in speck. Then, find a frame.  :) If you wrench on Ducs, then you won't have any problems working on the SOHC4 Honda.

Thanks!  My intent is to definitely take the motor down and check it out.  I don't expect the lower-end to be any problem and I have no reason to doubt the p.o. on the 'fresh rebuild' status of the motor, just that rings and springs don't like being compressed for that long w/o lube and movement.

Thanks for the Monster-love KB02.  Time to take my 'cleanliness' to the SOHC4's me-thinks! Hehehe...
