street exhausts
« on: October 05, 2009, 02:33:21 AM »
i am making a list of parts i'm going to need when i build the hotrod motor for my k4 750 and one of the questions i have is about the exhaust. i want what is going to be the best performing exhaust i can get for my street, daily ridden k4 750. it has a .75mm overbore which is going to be joined sometime in the next 6-8 months by a ported head with polished valves, new guides and a 5 angle valve job, a cam, titanium retainers and locks and stronger springs it also has a dyna s ignition and 3ohm dyna couls with a hondaman resistor pack. at this time i have a kerker 4 into 1 with the stock kerker megaphone and baffle with the packing removed from around the baffle. i will be changing the exhaust out when i re-do the motor and what i need to know is, is a 4 into 1 (yosh style from carpy) going to make any better power than a 4 into 4 like the swarbick i've been eyeing (unmuffled megs) the exchange rate has the swarbick exhaust less than 550 dollars at this time, which is less than what i paid for the kerker and close enough to price to the carpy or yamiya styled pipe. i like the look/style of the swarbick alot more than a 4 into 1 pipe. but if the power/rideability i get from the 4into1 is significantly better i'll go with it, though i'd really rather have the 4 into 4. i'm looking for function over form with this build.

I was under the impression that a 4-4 will always produce more usable power than a 4-1. But, they're heavier.

It is my understanding that Swarbick's pipes are not ready for install, requiring significant fabrication as part of their installation.  Benjie (www.benjiescaferacer.com/home.html) will make you a set of 4-4 or 4-2 but it will cost. Cycle exhange sells a 4-2-1 style exhaust that might be worth considering . . . .Exhaust theory is complicated and I don't know very much. . . .  .

i figured i'd have to do brckets and weld the megaphones to the headpipes at the least with those swarbick pipes. if i get a 4 into 4, as nice as the benjis exhaust is, i cant spend that much on an exhaust. at around 550 dollars or so depending on the exchange rate, the swarbick system is more do-able for me.
